Do you go for the artsy-fartsy style, or for something people will enjoy reading?

Oh well, it's Boxing Day evening here in Oz (9.48pm AEDST).  Christmas is over for another year.  Still got to think of promotional ideas for my work.  Perhaps a pictorial in some tawdry magazine, with copies of my novel 'Abernethy' placed strategically over those erogenous zones (memo to the art department: please get your airbrushing equipment oiled and ready).  I've entered 'Abernethy' in the Young Adult section of the Western Australian Premiers Book Award, but won't know anything until…

Word of Mouth Helps Sell Books - An Author Success Story

Here is a success story from Jan Fishler, author of Searching for Jane, Finding Myself (An Adoption Memoir) - http://www.searchingforjane.com:

Of the various marketing techniques I’ve tried, word-of-mouth has been the most successful. I didn’t set out to employ this particular technique, it just happened.

About three months before my book's publication date, I started telling friends that I was…

Merry Christmas ~ Hallelujah Chorus

Everytime I hear Handel's Messiah Chorus, I start crying. I can't explain why, but I do. So many different emotions just rush through and before they even get to the fifth 'Hallelujah', the water is turned on and going full force. It's really embarrassing. There are times I wish I didn't cry so easily. I get picked on ~ A LOT. But I can't seem to help it. Beautiful things do that to me (as well as sad things.) When my hubby showed me this video, I left the room - FAST. I had to go all the way… Continue

A Success Guidebook for HR Professionals

Review by Lauren S. Smith

Human Resource professionals have long been the butt of workplace jokes and cartoons. It's difficult to rise above that sort of typecasting, but there is a new book out that might help. From Gatekeeper to Trusted Advisor: Success Strategies for Today's HR Professional, written by Andria L. Corso, may be just what HR professionals need to learn how to develop trust and communication…

Just 'Desserts'

It's hard to get any writing done when it's school holidays.  My kids are driving me mad.  I'm going to Heaven when I die, because I did my time in Hell today: taking them to the supermarket two days before Christmas.  I have to do a couple of hours' paid work in the morning, and they will be at the local day care centre.  I'll leave them there for a few hours, number one because they really like it, and number two: I'll do some writing.  I'll also prepare the dessert I'm planning for…

Have a Hot, Sexy Holiday!

Sandra Blaisdale has no idea who she's up against when she pits her

talents and wits with Jerry Bovia, her advertising accounting rival.

Both are trying for the elusive Femme Mystique account, but Jerry has a

plan of his own.  He'll use his naughty or nice talents to get the

account and try to bed Sandra at the same time.  Will Sandra succumb or

will she give Jerry his just desserts-- right in time for Christmas?

Matthew Reilly Hell Island

Are there any Scarecrow fans out there? I am definitely one. You can count me among those that have read everything that is available that Matthew Reilly has written, including the YA Hover Car series. The last time I posted

on a Matthew Reilly novel was for the Five Greatest Warriors novel (please

check the archives for that; I loved it). Here is what this short novel is

about:
