December 2011 Blog Posts (192)

Excited to wake!!

As some of you may have noticed the counter for my blog has exploded. For the last week, I’ve been averaging about 600 hits a day and it’s going up. Yesterday, I got 1,700. It seams the search engine optimization is kicking in after all, and it will only get better over time. It’s a bit overwhelming to think that so many people are reading my posts and checking out the kinds of books I write. Every morning I jump from bed, come down to my office, and check my stats on my various sites. It’s…

Mark Cooper-The Shadow of al-Khayal

The Shadow of al-Khayal

I know – the heading makes it sound like a Lovecraftian pastiche, but bear with me – there’s a point here somewhere.

My wife asked me when I started writing. After some serious thought I answered that I probably started in earnest sometime around 2004 but I’d been writing off and on since late 2001. Although September 11th wasn’t a source of inspiration for my urge to write I would have to admit that it provided a form…

Q&A with Rod Rees ,author of "The Demi-Monde:Winter"

Q: In The Demi-Monde you introduce a myriad of religions that are loosely based on ones that exist today (e.g. UnFunDaMentalism, HerEticalism etc.). Why did you decide to incorporate these into the story?

When I was first designing the Demi-Monde I wanted each of the four books to be set in one of five different Sectors so that…

How much does an E-book cost?

How much does an e-book cost?

The world has undoubtedly taken a huge leap from the time that the Internet was created. We could certainly speak of a before and after in terms of communication and technology. The network of networks is omnipresent in all activities of our daily life. It has  gotten into our daily lives in a swift and fierce way

Before; we had to wait in line to buy tickets to a movie, take the trouble to go to a bank to pay the electricity or credit…

Come on readers!

The first ads of my winter campaign are live. The combined cost for both was $100. They will run for the next two weeks right on the home pages of these sites. This should give the ads about 100,000 views at least.

Now, I’m not expecting to sell 250 books because of these ads, which is what I’d need to break even, what I’m looking for now is exposure, plain…

Book Review: A World of His Own: In the Land of the Creoles, by Arlette Gaffrey

A World of His Own is an enjoyable historical novel set in New Orleans in the early 1800′s. The novel spans a few years and centers around the life of Andre Raphael de Javon, an ambitious and handsome Frenchman who comes to America in order to become one of the richest plantation owners in Louisiana.

The story begins when he’s just arrived by ship to New Orleans in the company of his friend Charles, who’s spent the last six years studying in Europe. Charles comes…

!?,;:(-). . . .

My dictionary defines punctuation as “the act, practice or system of using certain standardized marks and signs in writing and printing, as to separate sentences, independent clauses, parenthetical phrases, etc., in order to make the meaning more easily understood.” Punctuation  creates order out of chaos and provides us with clear, universal communication. Consider this: I love punctuation! Or, the alternative: I love…
