How Book Authors Can Negotiate A Book Royalty

How Book Authors Can Negotiate A Book Royalty

The hardest part as a book author may not be the writing, nor book marketing or finding a book publisher. Negotiating with a publisher also may not be as difficult -- that is, if you educate yourself about what is rightfully yours as the creator of the work. The book contract could come easy. What is the hardest part? The hardest part is preventing the book publisher from taking advantage of you.

Yes, publishers… Continue

Who Killed Emmett Till? BlogBook continues ...

Now working on a blogbook chapter of Who Killed Emmett Till? -- about Dr. T.R.M. Howard, the Rev. George Lee, Regional Council of Negro Leadership (RCNL) and White Citizens' Council -- next post.

I've got to work hard and fast because the anniversary of Emmett Till's death is tomorrow. At approximately 2 a.m. on the morning of August 28, 1955, this young Chicago school boy was kidnapped, tortured and killed in the Mississippi Delta.

He "didn't know the rules," a woman from… Continue

What can one say about ones work?

I have great ideas about writing I can write for hours on end about far away places and times, but when it comes to marketing I have to admit I am downright stumped.

It would seem like a form of writers block however it is not strictly the case it seems more like a case of not knowing how to blow ones trumpet.

Now I will be the first to admit that I am not a man without sin but blowing my trumpet is not one of my sins at least I don’t think so.

My greatest… Continue

Dirty Little Angels by Chris Tusa Review

I was recently contacted by Chris Tusa, the author of Dirty Little Angels and Haunted Bones, asking me to read his newest novel (Dirty Little Angels) and review it. You never know what you’re going to get when this happens but I took on the task all the same - I love to read and a free book was just the escape I needed.

Before receiving the ebook version of Dirty Little Angels I decided to do a little background work and discovered many fantastic reviews already written for his book.… Continue

Indeed, Video Conveys The Message Best

I find one the most rewarding ways to market my client's books and re-cycle thier media coverage is via the creation of videos. Video conveys energy and enthusiasm, and is also memorable (if it's done right). There's no question that every published author should have a You Tube channel where they can market their books and, thereby increase sales and readership. I've also recently discovered LinkedIn has a feature whereby you can let your network know about books you are reading. I've recently… Continue

Eery Photo of Tallahatchie County Courthouse in Sumner, Mississippi

Was going through my photos and found this shot of the Tallahatchie County Courthouse. Actually, the county has two courthouses, one in Sumner and the other in Charleston. This is the courthouse where the trial of Milam and Bryant took place, the two men accused of murdering young Emmett Till. They were found innocent but later admitted to a Look Magazine reporter and gave their account of what took place.

Here's an interesting… Continue

Oops! Out of Time.

Today, for reasons I have yet to determine, my late, paternal grandmother weighs heavily upon my already ultra-engaged mind. Malinda Cartwright was a force of nature - a "piece of work" to be sure. This East Texas-born mother of nine, born in 1889, remained mentally sharp, enjoyed near 20-20 vision, and had all but two of her original teeth when she died at at the age of 104. Until the end, she was… Continue

In the mid 1930s, anthropologist Hortense Powdermaker and social psychologist John Dollard, both white Yale colleagues at the Institute of Human Relations, traveled into the Delta to study Indianola and nearby Sunflower, making the Sunflower County seat historically significant as the site of the first anthropological studies on non-Native people in the United States.
