Those of us who write books love books. Am I right? When someone asks you what book is on your nightstand do you try to not laugh because it's more a question of how many stacks you are trying to balance?
But for many people, the idea of reading a book is great effort. They have to be really "into" the book to finish it (not like myself who is determined to finish it regardless). Most people read a chapter or two and if it's not working…

A few posts back, I mentioned that I was trying to put together a virtual tour for my book, THE BREKLEBY PRESS. I just wanted to update those who have offered me words of encouragement. I have one event with another two pending a date.
March 10th with Elena Bowman, author of JOURNEY TO THE RIM OF SPACE AND BEYOND, http://elenadorothybowmansbooks.blogspot.com/
I have another two that are pending dates. Also want to let everyone know that I will be a guest on…

I’ve just discovered the neatest idea in a website, so I just had to share my findings with you. The website is called
www.bookcrossing.com and it’s all about sharing books on a worldwide scale in the form of a treasure hunt! Maybe its concept is what had me hooked from the beginning—appealing to the little kid in me who used to send messages wrapped in taped-up envelopes and wrapped in plastic sandwich bags to be released into the ocean in hope that…

How your words encourage me. Sometimes I receive kind words about my humble posts; they fuel me to keep on writing and sending messages to lift your day.
Just like Paul traveled from Antioch to Jerusalem and all over Asia, we also travel through cyberspace to each other’s screen to share notes to encourage, to bring a little laughter, inspire one another through rough moments, and even to send a bit of enlightenment drawn from god’s Word.
So thank you to those of you who…

Rain Books have sent out the first round of press releases for my forthcoming release 'Glastonbury'. As they are in Canada I'm not familiar with the publications they use over there, but they have sent me a list of newspapers they have sent the release to in the UK, which includes 'The Times'. I'm impressed by the long list of newspapers around the country that they have submitted the release to. This is what they've said about it:
Rain…

Whether you are having a table at the back of the room while speaking, doing a book signing, or trying to get stores to carry your book up on their counter, good display items can make the difference between a "yes" and a "no." Both the store owner's response and also the buyer.
We've all been to the typical office supply stores and have seen the acrylic stands where you stick a brochure in. But did you know there are hundreds of possibilities for snazzier displays? One of my…

So your KIDS are calling you "Dude", instead of Mom or Dad...and they don't care if they do their homework, after all they say, "why do I have to know that stuff"?
Are they having sex before 16, if you do not believe it ..please read the reports by various agencies across America and just look at the High School drop out rate due to girls having babies. It is high and rising monthly!
Are these "at-risk" kids?......They sure are..."at-risk" kids are not just teens in…

Virtual Tales has revamped their website and are doing a 30%-off promotional of their titles until March 9.
This also means that links to Fraterfamilias on the site have changed. The new one is:

On my local RWA loop, one of the other writers asked what types of promo actually work to introduce an author to new readers. Wow. If I knew the answer to that one, I’d be able to retire to Maui next week. I sort of use the shotgun method myself. I spray the news about my newest release, DISTRACTING THE DUCHESS in every outlet I possibly can and hope that some of it hits the targets.
And one of things I use is book trailers or bookpeeks, as they are sometimes called. Now I know some…

After so many years of failed relationships, addictions, depression and loneliness, I get it.
After a lifetime of intensive psychotherapy and marital counseling it all seems so simple.
The loss of my mother to alcoholism in early childhood left me convinced that I would inevitably lose anything or anyone I loved. So much of my life has been a painful and messy attempt to avoid that pain of early loss.
What would it be like if I didn’t need to protect myself from caring to deeply…

I've, finally, after much proof reading and correcting, pressed the 'make available' button on 'The Witch's Boy'.
It's a monumental occasion for me, though only in a small way. I believe that it means TWB should now be available through my Lulu storefront. It will take another 6-8 weeks before it's available for order through Amazon, Borders + Barnes and Noble.
However, the ball is rolling!
I'll grab this…

This is turning out a little harder than I thought it would be. The virtual tour I mean.
I'm doing my reserch on finding sites to promote my book and coming up with a
few places that will either carry my book, The Brekleby Press, or place it on their page
(small feature) which is great. I'm not knocking that. Exposure is exposure.
But to have some hosts for the tour is another matter. Guess I missing the bigger
picture down the road.
Part of what I'm finding…

Peanut butter as a remedy for writer's blocK? I talk about that and another tried and true method (for me, at any rate) of dealing with block on today's virtual book tour stop:
