10 Key Questions to Ask to Unlock Your Expertise

Many business

owners wrestle with this notion of "expertise", feeling certain that they don't

know enough to be looked upon by anyone as an expert. I avoided that expert

label as well for my first 5 or so years in business, despite being very good at

what I did. I was always comparing myself to other "experts" in the field and

felt myself falling sadly short on the experience meter of what I thought an

expert should be.

As…

From the Chalice to the Blade

Writing is such a sacred feminine process for me. Like a chalice I opened to conceive Mary's story in passionate waves of emotion, then months and months of editing, honing a rough draft into a fine gem became a very long gestation. Now I am in labor. My book is finished, but it is not yet born. This presale period is like being in transition. I want to push, but it's too early. And my labor coach has yet to arrive. Marketing seems like a masculine process. Must I turn my chalice upside down… Continue

The book features interviews with lobbyists, volunteer advocates, politicians and politicians' staff, all in pursuit of the answer to these questions:

What influences politicians? How do they make decisions? Do they listen to ordinary people or is it all about big-money interest (hint: don't believe the newspapers and tv).

The second section gives step-by-step analysis and proven techniques so you can…

My latest contribution to the information age:-)

I have just released a new home-study program to help people earn more money and keep more of what they earn.

The program Stop Living Paycheck to Paycheck takes an in-depth look at money and wealth. First, from the psychological aspect, exploring issues such as beliefs about money, money habits, where they come from and the conditioning that drives a person’s money behavior.

Then it explores the specifics like savings, debt… Continue

First blog post

Hello all.

I was just asked by my boss yesterday if I liked my job and what I was doing. I couldn't put into words the absolute joy I take in my job each day. It certainly does not feel like a JOB, as many of my other employment opportunities have. Here are several reasons why:

  • I am asked what my opinion is, daily, by authors, my boss and other book industry colleagues, and people actually consider what I have to say as being important.
  • I am proud to tell people…

Carolyn Howard-Johnson Calls for Nominations for Her Sixth Annual Literary Award

Praised or maligned, the Nobel Prize for Literature is always news. It selects the best from the world and therefore misses much of value. Carolyn Howard-Johnson, “Back to Literature” columnist for MyShelf.com, closes the gap (only slightly) with her an annual “Noble (Not Nobel!) Prize for Literature.”…

Book Exchange Anyone?

I self-published and in doing so I got 5 copies of my book back from the printer with a few ugly spelling and grammar issues...yuck!

I have been holding onto these because I knew at some point I would find a good use for them - but of course I couldn't show anyone these!

Until now... since you are all my new friends... does anyone want to do a little book exchange? a bad copy of my book for a copy of yours? I'll take yours in any format - word, pdf,…

Finished Another Book...Kind of

Late Friday night/early Saturday morning, I finished the first draft of Sandhill Dreams! Woohoo!

Let me tell you, it is a great feeling to type in the last word and

then the final period. I have lived with this story for about five

weeks. About six of every seven nights I would sit down to write. The

characters felt like friends the further into the book I got. Many

times I didn't even have to think about what the…

Hello. I'm In and Out.

Perhaps it's just me, but I can't stand looking at a blank page. I'll admit that my mind is somewhere between Ancient Rome and a horrific death scene (two books I'm currently working on) but I just had to put something on this blog.

It may seem odd to those that don't write, but I don't have as much time to write as I would like, so I can't be here too often. There just isn't enough hours in the day. So, that being said, I'm going back…

LA Clergy Sex Abuse Settlement

I should be used to it but I'm not! I continue to be amazed at the lack

of empathy felt for victims of clergy sex abuse by others - especially

fellow 'Catholic' parishioners - who just don't seem to get it. Reading

the comments in the LA Times yesterday one could easily find a

cluster of dismissive, accusatory and rejectionary attitudes with

regards the victims and the over generous $600... million settlement. It takes enormous courage to pursue the Church. I take my… Continue
