New Book Release

Two years ago I wrote a poem called "GI JOES AND ARMY MEN" that described my feelings as a new military mother. I felt mixed emotions when putting my son on the plane for Fort Jackson, South Carolina. I felt proud of his decision/calling to serve his country! I also felt fear...

(You can find this poem posted on my website's Under God page at www.allgloryishis.com.)

I knew I could either fall apart and cry all the way through the next…

It's a Good Idea....but is it the Right Idea?

There’s a difference between a good idea and the right idea, between an idea that is anyone’s for the taking and one that is uniquely yours, one that’s right for you, right now.

Ask yourself, before you launch into a frenzy of research and writing: Is this what I’m called to write? Is this the call of my Muse, the story only I can tell? Or is this anyone’s? Is this another good idea or is this The Right Idea for me?

Anyone can take a good idea and give it shape and… Continue

Butterfly Days

Yesterday contained one of those had to be there moments. Of course, as a writer, I’ll try to describe it.

We’d just gotten home from a friend’s house, and the kids were outside while I put on casual clothes. Confession – I got distracted by email – and next thing I know my daughter is standing in front of me with a

huge grin on her face, hands clasped tightly in front of her.

“Mommy,…

The offering is free, but the story is priceless!

This month, on my web site at www.sylviadickeysmith.com, I feature a FREE short story by author M.A. Kemp entitled KILLING THE HOP KING. I think I'd go read the story for no other reason than the fantastic, intriguing title.

Later this week, I hope to have an interview with M. A. Kemp on my Blog at http://sylviadickeysmith.blogspot.com. So check it later in the week.

Hope you enjoy the story. If you do, let M.A. and me know.

Not all at once, now, but...

...I have a new blog. It's www.TheNewBookReview.blogspot.com. It's designed to let authors recycle their favorite reviews in a venue that doesn't judge the acceptability of a book by its cover or the press that prints it (-; Please read the guidelines on the left side of the page (scroll down a bit) and submit in format. It's especially important to get permission from the original…

How a Book is Born: One Author's Story

Not all books come out whole, all at once. In fact, most books ease out little by little. They have strange and wondrous beginnings. Some come from speeches, some come from articles or short stories. Your book may evolve from a teleclass or coaching experience with a client.

The saying goes if you write a page a day, at the end of a year you'll have a book--a big book at that! But then, why think so big?

Twenty-five years ago, I gave Speed reading and Memory seminars. I…

More awards!

Both my book and my first blog, "Never too Late!" won first place awards in their respective categories in the Illinois Woman's Press Association's Mate E. Palmer Communications Contest for 2007. Both were then sent on to the parent National Womens Press Foundation's contest, and to my surprise, I just learned that both were winners at the national level.

"Never too Late!" was a first place winner in the "Web Writing, Personal" category, and my book, Reinventing Myself:…

Something for nothing!

Well, almost nothing, all it takes is an email!

I run a monthly contest on my web site for a free Third Eye coffee mug. All anyone has to do is send me an email asking to enter, giving their mailing address, and whether they want a right or left handed mug. (Yes, there is a difference!!)

If you haven't sent me your name and request, we are starting off a new month now, so throw your name in the pot!

Would You Like To Share Your Thoughts?

I'm working on writing the first book in a promotional series I've been planning for some time. One of the things I want to do, is include thoughts, suggestions and experiences from authors :) I bet you have some awesome promo ideas and would like to know if you would like to provide a quote. Finding Your Bliss

I think that out of all the requests that I get for ghostwriting, completing novels for people seems to be the # 1 request.

And, that's just fine with me, because I absolutely LOVE to write novels. It's something that is so creative and expressive. I don't think I will ever grow tired of writing them.

Right now I am working on a novel for a client where I am performing "Book Doctoring" services. The novel is so beautiful and the tweaking and rewriting of sections comes very…
