Spread the Word

That has to be the best way to give a book steam once it's released.  A publisher can send a truckload of novels to Barnes & Noble or Amazon.com and give it the best marketing blurb in the world.  But, unless the reader picks up the book and is moved enough to suggest it to a friend or acquaintance, that book will more than likely sit on the proverbial shelf and collect dust.…

Noble - David K. Hulegaard, Author

Noble – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat and Think With Your Taste Buds – Desserts

‘Her name was Jane Emmett and she was pretty much just your average seventeen year old girl, or at least that’s what everyone in town thought about her.  She had grown up in Ashley Falls and came from…

Another independent, local bookstore has the book!

I managed to cross state lines and get another book into an indie bookstore! If you're in Mississippi go and check out Bay Books on Main street. The owner is very accomodating and she has two very cool cats that take up residence inside. Most importantly, you can get a copy of I Wandered from New Orleans right off the shelf! In real live bookstores in New Orleans, Mississippi and Atlanta! It's too bad that poetry is mostly disregarded by people as being too complicated and vague.…

An introduction to the Indigo Girls

Just listened to the Indigo Girls' new CD "Happy Holly Days" and I have to say it was pretty good. This is coming from someone of course who isn't a big fan of Christmas music. If the Indigo Girls put out a CD there is no way that I can pass it up. The girls have been a huge inspiration ever since I first heard them in Peni Lotoza's car after we got out of work at Terror on Church Street back in '93. 'Blood and Fire' was the first song I had ever heard and though many had…

Observations of the LA Times Festival of Books 2009

I've returned from Day One of the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. I am representing an Hawaiian publisher of SAT Preparation books at this year's show. I'm sharing space in Booth 143, the Book Publicists of Southern California booth. It was an interesting first day. Here are some of my observations.

First, the Day One crowd in 2009 appears to be at least as big as the 2008 crowd. That's remarkable considering people's perception of the economy. It really shouldn't… Continue
