Well Excuse Me! by Tim Smith

I read a post on a reviewer’s website that made me rethink online courtesy. This woman went on a rant about authors who aren’t considerate enough to say “thank you” when she reviews their books, often at their request. She held the opinion that after she spent “hours reading and reviewing” a book, the least the author could do was “take a few minutes” to send a follow-up e-mail, especially if it was a good write-up.

Wow – I thought we were all on the same page! I used…

The Flounder Family Chapter 6

“Dove! So good to see ya!  It’s been so long!  How long has it been?  Months?  Years?  I can’t keep track, too busy, things keeps me hopping!  Ha! Ha!  Really, you know how it is.  I think of you all the time.  Been keeping up with those kids of yours?  Where are the little…rapscallions?”

Dove had closed her eyes when she heard the car pull into the drive way.  She exhaled and threw her dish rag into the sink.  I don’t normally pray, God, well not about silly things, well not like…

Top 5 Sites for Romance Writers

Romance novels are arguably the most economically successful of all fiction genres. According to Romance Writers of America, romance books bring in a whopping 1.3 billion dollars a year, more than mystery novels, science fiction and fantasy combined. It's no wonder that more than half of all new fiction is comprised of romance novels. (This statistic is borne out by Amazon's…

For Writers: Blogging – What’s the Big Deal?

copyright aaron paul lazar, 2012

The Beginning

I'd just finished my sixth book in May of 2005, when I was approached by Bob Burdick to create a piece for his book-lovers' website. "Just tell us about your writer's life, how you manage to work and write at the same time. Tell us about the person you are, and how it all fits together."

I'd never really written much more than fiction, emails, and tech reports at…

Best Practices: Pitching Book Bloggers (Special Report Now Available for Download)

In March 2011, the Saima Agency conducted a survey of 30 book bloggers to find out what constituted the perfect pitch. Book bloggers are experts on pitching books. After all, they receive pitches every single day from publishers, publicists, even directly from authors. Ever wonder what they’re thinking? Well, you should if you are considering asking them to review your book. Simply put yourself in their shoes for a minute – before you send out that pitch.

Blogging, blogging, blogging....

It seems I'm so busy writing these days (and editing, and re-writing) that I have very little time for blogging. Add to that the fact that I keep forgetting where I parked my blog, and so I create a new one. So I have several blogs now, and it gets even tougher to keep up with them.

But enough about me!

Here's a bit of updating in case you wondered just what I've been up to these days:

I've now published six books, and I'm waiting for the art…

Stir Up Sunday.

As Christmas approached the Victorian’s had a tradition called ‘Stir Up Sunday’. This was held to be the day when that year’s Christmas pudding was made. A family event, it was considered good luck for everyone to stir the pudding mix – clockwise with their eyes shut or the wish wouldn’t come true. So you could be forgiven for thinking that this is where ‘Stir up Sunday’ originates from.

But you would be wrong....

Are you getting the most out of Twitter?

Making the most of Twitter can boost your book sales, so take a few minutes each day to attend to your twitter account.

One of the best strategies on Twitter is to be generous to others and don't use it for the hard sell. Most people will ignore your tweets if you are always saying... "Buy my book..." Instead, read the posts of others and retweet the posts of others. Send people to your blog of course, but also send them to the blogs of others. By being generous with your tweeting,… Continue
