Writer's Block... How to beat mental lock down!
Nine months ago you came up with a great idea for a romantic comedy that you pitched to a publisher who was willing to print it. Like any labor of love, you started this project off with a mountain load of enthusiasm, formulating a clever storyline filled with colorful characters and witty dialogue. Three hundred and fifty pages of manuscript…

I managed to cross state lines and get another book into an indie bookstore! If you're in Mississippi go and check out Bay Books on Main street. The owner is very accomodating and she has two very cool cats that take up residence inside. Most importantly, you can get a copy of I Wandered from New Orleans right off the shelf! In real live bookstores in New Orleans, Mississippi and Atlanta! It's too bad that poetry is mostly disregarded by people as being too complicated and vague.…

If you’ve written a book and are looking to go in to print, then consider ‘podding’ with a publisher who will show you how to make money-selling books online.
‘Podding’ means teaming up with one of the new breed of ‘print-on-demand’ publishers like
DragonCub, who can take a manuscript, edit and format the content quickly and efficiently and have your book ready to print and ship as soon as an order comes in.
Authors can cut…

Expressions like co-operative publishing, joint venture publishing, subsidy publishing, and self-publishing are misleading to say the least. They all mean the same thing, ‘vanity’ publishing. Yet scores of small publishers advertise their services on the web. Some publishers go to great lengths to conceal from the author, all the costs involved, which suddenly escalate half way through production of a book.
There are good vanity publishers just as there are bad. How does an author…

DIY publishing is now considered trendy as opposed to thirty years ago, when mainstream publishers invited new and unknown authors along to preview prospective works.
Assuming an author has X number of books printed either through a vanity publisher or even a small press, the next step is to get the book out there, to be read. Take time to decide the best strategy.
• Identify the target audience, age, income, career and residential location of prospective readers.
•…

Instead of stacking rejection slips by touting your manuscript around agents and traditional publishing houses, a podding agreement will let a publisher take your manuscript, edit and format the text ready for firing out paperback or hardback copies as soon as the orders come in.
DragonCub will also help with marketing the book, but because DragonCub cuts the overheads, you earn a bigger royalty on each sale.
You can also help…

On the island of Kauai in Hawaii, Old Hanapepe Town is a colony of artists of all kinds. Shop, galleries, and cafes fill every space along the one very long block. Friday is known as Friday Night Artwalk and all the businesses remain open from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.
September is our peak hurricane season. When we have no hurricanes threatening, we have rain. Do we ever! It's been raining hard off and on for days. I wasn't sure if the turn out would be great.

As you may know, I rarely read my poetry. It's certainly not from lack of love of the genre. But two very special poets have asked me to read at an exceptionally supportive bookstore in Pacific Palisades in a couple of weeks (info below). I hope you'll join us and support our efforts. I'll read a couple of poems from Tracings, a couple from my coming chapbook She Wore Emerald Then co-authored with Magdalena Ball. Maybe a couple brand new ones, too. Please mark your calendars.

Since Mother's Day is coming up and I am wanting to do a little
advertising for my new bookstore, Harbor of Hope Christian Bookstore, I
thought I would kick it off with a book giveaway.
My bookstore is no where near where I want it to be, but I figure if I
wait until I get all the kinks worked out of it I might never launch
it, so as I continue to work with my web designer you will see it
transform. I only have a small selection of books right now…
