A cartoon book cover!

I design a lot of book covers but I'm rarely asked to use my cartooning skills for the cover image. The most recent requests came from author Richard Herr for his books, Invasion From Fred (a YA novel) and Dog & Pony, Vol. 1: Aloha (a quirky, humorous novel in which all sort of crazy mishaps befall a company that organizes business and product presentations for their clients). The idea for the cover of Invasion From…

Building a Brand as an Author

“A brand is the idea or image of a specific product or service that consumers connect with, by identifying the name, logo, slogan, or design of the company who owns the idea or image. Branding is when that idea or image is marketed so that it is recognizable by more and more people, and identified with a certain service or product when there are many other companies offering the same service or product. ” --Brick Marketing

Exciting Changes

Exciting changes have been forced on website changes for this member and writer. Perhaps I am trying to do too much. Page Layout

The layout of your book is very important. The average paperback book size is six inches wide and nine inches tall, which is much smaller than the average size of a sheet of an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper. This means that if you are submitting a book for printing, you will need to select the proper page setup.

Your page layout can be designed with any word processing software if your book is for a small audience of friends or family. Any serious work, however, should be…

Cover and Title Have Changed...What do you Think?

Call it a writer's prerogative.  After conferring with my trusted confidante', Elaine; she has convinced me to rename the novel "The Long Road from Perdition".  Truthfully, it fits the story more accurately.

And, the cover for the last title, seemed....well, too "bright".  I was happy with it and not happy with it.  So, after creating just the right look, I think I'm satisfied.  But, the proof is in the pudding.  What do YOU think?  Take a look at the two… Continue

Your Book Cover: What Kind of a First Impression Does It Make?

I was just reading a blog where a lady said she was ashamed to admit

she tends to ignore books with amateurish covers even though she

suspects some of the stories inside those covers might be pretty good.

As a book cover designer ( I can tell you no one should feel guilty about judging a book by its cover.

Because humans are, by nature, extremely… Continue
