So, What was it like Growing up in Groves? (The City on the Grow)

I can tell you that I'm old enough that my generation grew up very different than the Gen Y'ers of today.  I know it's hard to believe Virginia; but there weren't computers in every home.  The only phones around were landlines.  No cell phones, smart phones, Droids, texting are anything else. …

Fighting Bob

©2011 Bob Stockton. Excerpted from Chapter 1 of 'Fighting  Bob,' AuthorHouse. Unauthorized use prohibited.

It was while I was recovering from a particularly nasty motorcycle accident last year that I decided to write the book. I had been threatening to put pen to paper and write an autobiography that would chronicle my many adventures and mishaps during a twenty year Navy career but had never done anything about it. The project would be just the ticket to keep me busy while all…

The Attitude Girl - Mila Bernadkin, Author

The Attitude Girl – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat and Think With Your Taste Buds

“Watch where you’re going, you dork,”  I hear suddenly from the right side.  It’s pretty-blond-but-really-dumb-and-mean Heather Stone, insulting a quiet, brilliant nerd, Norman Fixx, for accidently touching her shoulder with a…

So, what do you think? Thumbs up or Thumbs down!

I think one of the biggest worries for a new or seasoned author is that others will enjoy your book as much as you enjoyed writing it.  At least this was one of the many feelings I encountered, in addition to nervousness of course.  Imagine how excited I was when the reviews came in and they were great.  This is my first fiction book.  My first book was non-fiction.  I decided to switch it up and it turned out to be great. To get a copy of my book, Simply Complicated, go to…

Voice Check: Who Is Master and Who Is Slave of Self Within?

When was the last time you had a VC? Yeah, that’s right - a voice check. I had one today, yesterday and the day before that. And I’ll have one tomorrow, the next day, and the day after that, and the day after those, too. Until I become master of self, I’ll live the rest of my days engaging in VC’s. Actually, I have several VC’s throughout the day.

“Why is conducting a voice check so important”, you might ask?…

Why You Must Never Give Up

                                                      Strength, Failure And Weakness

Most times the greatest challenges to victory are always the strength to carry on in a fight. The fear of our past failures or fear to start a new thing and above all our weaknesses scare us so much that we are almost left with no courage to carry on.

Strength

In the days of mike Tyson in the boxing ring, most opponents believed they could win the…

Wake Up Call - Part 3

Wake Up Call - Part 3 is part of a series of blogs posted on my website.  In this blog I share the urgency in the voice of God that woke me up late one night.  It is an urgent and timely call for us to examine our hearts, get our focus firmly set on Jesus and do what He has called and equipped us to in these last days.  There is a saying, "there's no time like the present".  I couldn't have said it better myself.  There really is…

Written to give sister to sister love of hope and help to those that may be walking that mile or two in my or other women shoes. Most of all it is here to all those that have not reached this point to allow them to be for-warned. Messages are sent through a puff of smoke, on the wings of a dove…

A View Of Kensington Gardens

"The life of every man is a diary in which he means to write one story, and writes another; and his humblest hour is when he compares the volume as it is with what he vowed to make it." - J.M. Barrie, from his novel The Little Minister (1891)

When I think of growing up, the characters and imaginary places in the works of James M. Barrie are never far from my thoughts. I've stood in front of his house looking… Continue

"It Aint Over Til God Says It's Over"

You may look down on me.

You may even critize me.

You may scandalize my name.

I will still expect my claim to success and fame.

You may act as if hurting my feelings is a game.

You may do all that you can to make me shame.

You may commit acts and try to make me the blame.

I will hold on to my dignity just the same.

Reaching the high calling of God, is what I aim.

I don't have to act like a wild animal, I'm tame.

I will try to stay focused, my… Continue

Want to set up online book tour - any suggestions?

hello,
I'm nearing the end of publishing my second book (first book ended up in paperback & ebook formats). I'd like to set up a blog book tour but I'm not sure how to go about this. Can anyone recommend a strategy for finding blogs to be a guest on, finding bloggers to post on my blog and how to approach these bloggers?
Thanks.

I've come too far to turn around

"I’ve come to far to turn around"

I’ve come too far, and I can’t think of turning around.

My heart; mind, and soul is as low as the ground.

Listening for a word from above, but I hear no sound.

All I know is how loud, and hard my heart is beginning to pound.

I look around for one of my supposed to be friend’s, there are none to be found.

My troubles have risen higher than a mound.

May my works speak for me… Continue
