Self-Publishing--Is it an option? Yes, And A Good One!

Self-Publishing--Is it an option?

Self-publishing. For me, that has always equated to those detestable two words: VANITY PRESS! And I’ve always shunned those. They usually produced inferior books, had little or no distribution, and/or the books were so expensive nobody would buy them. They were really just to assuage the author’s vanity, in my opinion, hence the… Continue

Science Fiction Authors Who Are Gender Benders

Authors Who Are Gender Benders

Now, this doesn’t mean we’re talking about authors who are following the path of say, David Bowie during his Ziggy Stardust days, or Boy George, or any others who so excelled at the androgynous idea, either…

Some Tips For Marketing your Books

Ah marketing! How I hate it! I think most writers do.

Marketing oneself as a writer. It does make one feel like a bit of a prostitute at times, no doubt about it. Not only do we have to have good imaginations these days, the ability to come up with plots and actually take months to write them down, take the abuse of publishers and their numerous rejections, but we have to do so much more! We have to market ourselves, and our work.

And that "ain't easy!" It can be… Continue

Getting The Research Right - Using Medieval Villages and Cities as Historical/Fantasy Story Settings

...Or, How not to End Up as the Village Idiot!

The Black Knight thundered down the road. He raced passed the old abbey. Its crenellated walls thrust defiantly upward, as if daring the forces of darkness to attack it. However, the knight knew that his best hope lay in the hamlet ahead of him. It was there that he was to meet with the White Wizard. So on he galloped, passing the wattle huts of the outlying and poorest inhabitants, and then past the quaint stone… Continue

How to Get Your Book Published In Five Easy Steps!

Now this is going to be a daring article, because the title makes it sound as if I actually know what I’m talking about here. Well, I do -- to a point. I have been repeatedly published and at pro rates, and I do have three novels under contract, as well. So, I’m not entirely ignorant on this matter. And the reason I felt this article might have value is that I belong to an organization known as Critters.org, and being a member of it has brought something important to my… Continue

Review of my novella, Bug-Eyed Monsters

I just finished reading, Bug-Eyed Monsters, by Rob Shelsky. It really was like Edmond Hamilton's stories only, I think, it was better. The Bum saved the world, the girl was saved and the BEM's defeated. Very cool...Hope to read more stories by Rob soon. Thanks for the stories. One question: Is Shelsky, Rob's real name? It sort of sounds like a fictitious, 'Skywalker'.

WRITING MOVING ALONG

BUG-EYED MONSTER

My two-part story, Bug-Eyed Monster is now out with Planetary Stories and getting some darn good reviews, and some rather odd comments about my name! Check this out:
