So you want to know who Wenona Hulsey is when I'm not a writer. Very hard thing to do is separate my life from my writing. My mind is always spinning on a scene or looking for inspiration to strike, even while I slave away at my day job as a shipping manager for a medium size company or while I'm taking my two kids shopping or to the lake. I don't think I have a life that can be separated because my writing is part of my day to day life just like eating at my favorite Chinese restaurant…

The Shadow of al-Khayal
I know – the heading makes it sound like a Lovecraftian pastiche, but bear with me – there’s a point here somewhere.
My wife asked me when I started writing. After some serious thought I answered that I probably started in earnest sometime around 2004 but I’d been writing off and on since late 2001. Although September 11th wasn’t a source of inspiration for my urge to write I would have to admit that it provided a form…

Q: In The Demi-Monde you introduce a myriad of religions that are loosely based on ones that exist today (e.g. UnFunDaMentalism, HerEticalism etc.). Why did you decide to incorporate these into the story?
When I was first designing the Demi-Monde I wanted each of the four books to be set in one of five different Sectors so that…

My name is George, but for the moment please allow me to be frank.
Two things up front: I’m not a writer and I’m not a web surfer.
When I say I’m not a writer, I mean I didn’t plan to be. I have a good life and a wonderful family. My friends all say I tell good stories and a few of them pushed me to writing them down. See, there’s this publisher called Trestle Press and they are making waves, becoming known. So my friend says send that story to them. I did and here we are.…

How To Create Quality Characters
By John Hansen
Creating and developing characters is never an easy task, but there are numerous, easy ways to approach it. In this post, I’ll share my method for this madness, but keep in mind there are many other just as successful ways as well.
I tend to base a book off of a plot idea and then build the characters off of that plot. However, some authors prefer to start with the characters first,…

As we head towards Christmas and New Year and people start to get into a festive mood, I thought I’d take the opportunity to talk about something that’s close to my heart. We all know about the great enjoyment we can get from reading, but I’m not sure many people are aware of the fun that can be had when making words, sentences and stories. I’ll try to give you some examples…

I didn't want to do a normal get-to-know the author blog; I have done three of those in the last few weeks. I thought it would be nice to interview Madi Baranova, the female lead in Vision of the Moons. Here is what I found out about her during the interview.
Interesting shirt, can you tell me about it?
I am a huge fan of the saga, although they got the vamps wrong. Do I really look like I sparkle in the sun? I haven't…

I’d like to thank everyone at Trestle Press and Suzanne Woods Fisher for encouraging me to write an Amish serial, something I didn’t think I could do. But as I was knitting one night, I thought of my knitting circle and how women bring up their problems, sometimes to people they hardly know. Then I thought of all the advice I’ve gotten from two elderly Amish women in…

What is magical about magic? Arthur C. Clarke famously noted that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic, and that seems to imply that magic is just another way to do things, one that we don’t understand. “Sufficiently advanced” is a pretty ambiguous standard, of course, and it changes with time. In the movie “Minority Report” Tom Cruise uses a…

Recently I was talking with an old friend about her daughter. She was thanking me for being there for her when her daughter was going through spinal surgery for scoliosis. She mentioned that someone should write a blog, sharing their experience with curvature of the spine to help others who may be going through this trauma.
You see, when I was about twelve…

Michel R. Vaillancourt will be releasing his Trestle Press debut novel “The Sauder Diaires: By Any Other Name” on Monday Dec. 19.Here is the synopsis and author biography:

The Kinir Elite is made up of six elves. They are the Special Forces in their country - like Delta Force here in the States. or the S.A.S in the United Kingdom. They have unique and specialized training that allows them to handle missions of all kinds, ranging from hostage rescue to information gathering to “spy” work.
Because of the strong military theme…

I knew when I was sixteen I wanted to write. I don’t know why, I just did. I’d never even read a novel at that point; too energetic to sit still long enough. I remember coming home from football practice one night in the late ‘50s and lying across my bed with a notebook and pencil. I wrote two sentences, then took the next ten years off to think of a third one. So I came to this writing thing kind of bass akward, not like your typical book-loving library rat.
In college,…
