Author Fay Risner To Speak At Athena Club Nov. 8, 2010

Nov. 8, 2010, the Belle Plaine, Iowa Athena Club has invited me to speak about my Civil War book - Ella Mayfield's Pawpaw Militia - A Civil War Saga In Vernon County Missouri. ISBN 1438235461. Sold on Amazon, ebay and http://www.booksbyfaybookstore.weebly.com It seems only fitting that today's members in a club that was founded in the 1800's would be interested in history from that era.

Awhile back, I signed up on a website for… Continue

Final USPS Update, Twitter, Merchant Circle & More

I've received another $55 check from the Postal Service. That brings the total repayment to $110. I'm going to stop with that amount though I'm still owed another $25. I feel lucky to have gotten this much back. For future reference if I ever lose something else in the mail I've insured, I now know to keep pushing for a fair payment and have the Washington D.C address to write first.

At last count, I have 40 following me on Twitter and 66 followers. It seems as though I see an… Continue

I Like Customer Reviews

In a previous post I wrote about a review I requested from Charlie Courtland for A Promise Is A Promise from my Nurse Hal series. Charlie is the author of Dandelions In The Garden and has a book review website http://www.bitsybling.wordpress.com. I appreciated her good review and the fact that she put it on Amazon and www.goodreads.com where it could be…

Kindle Post Featured On iFOGO Village & More Author Sites

What a nice surprise to get an email to let me know that my blog post from last week - Kindle Book Sales A Surprise - was featured on www.iFogovillage.com. Thank you iFogo Village.

I read in an Amazon discussion that another author was surprised at how well his book was selling on Kindle after not getting as good a result for his hardcover book. Made me wonder just how many Kindles have been sold. Maybe sales would dry up soon. Also, on the…

Kindle Book Sales A Suprise

The month of June has past with several of my books in the Kindle store on Amazon. I priced the download of my books very cheap. I’m an unknown author so my paperback books in the list of choices in the different genre is near the bottom of thousands of titles. I’ve searched Amazon for them myself, and by the time I went through a few hundred books, I was tired of looking so I know how buyers feel. Then there is the fact that $16.00 plus $4.00 postage is a lot of money to pay to take a…

Blackberry Picking & Hay Making - Hot Jobs

Again my living in the country got in the way of being able to work at the computer last week. Not that I'm complaining. I love being an author, (these experiences help me write my Amish books) and a country gal. I'm the one who set out blackberry vines twenty years ago. I dug the starter plants out of my parents ditch. One more plant at my house that has a family attachment. It took a few years for the plants to get established and attached to the barb wire fence back of the garden. Now the… Continue

Yeah! Reviews On Amazon

Well, three book reviews anyway. That's a start.

Two years ago in June, I published 16 books on Create Space Publishing owned by Amazon. I started out to publish one book and found the process so easy I decided to publish all my books. My thought was that if I was going to promote one book I might as well promote all 16 at the same time. The books are different genre so I had a better chance of finding buyers. They are sold on Amazon which doesn't mean much for an unknown author… Continue

Another USPS Update

Here we go again. When I've complained to others about losing two packages, I've heard stories about people not pursuing the insurance claims that went unanswered when the Postal Service lost their package. That's why I started out to see how far I could get with my claim after a year of waiting to hear. Others might want to try to get their insurance claim settled, too, if I have any luck. If we pay the insurance fee and the fault of loss is the fault of the Postal Service, we have the right… Continue

Selling Me As The Author

Writer's Digest has a newsletter that I signed up to receive, and I find this very useful. I just read a good article on that website titled 10 simple steps to handselling our books which I really liked by. The article is all about how to get yourself noticed at a book signing and to come over as likeable so buyers that don't know the author will buy one of their books. Another thing this site offers are grammar lessons like when to use who or whom and this time- is alot a word. Sometimes…

My Kindle Books & Gone Fishing

I’ve decided to give Amazon’s Kindle book buyers a try with my Amish books. At first, I didn’t think I wanted to take less royalty. Admittedly, I usually take my time to think about a change. Finally, I decided the people that have a Kindle aren’t buying paperback books anyway so why not give this a try. After all it’s one more way to get people to see my name as an author. Once they try my books, readers usually want another one.

I’d already submitted to Kindle the first of my…

Writing and Reading Are Stress Relievers

Hello! This is my first post on this site though I have been blogging for a couple years on other sites. I talk about my experience as a writer that leads to a story mixed with stories about my life in the country. Welcome to Booksbyfay's Blog

Authors have always been lucky enough to have a built in stress reliever whether they know it or not. It’s called writing a book. Once I’m working on my characters and their lives for a new book I’m so absorbed that nothing or no one in…
