I've been compiling a book featuring 101 great and unusual ways to market your books -- as told by various authors and publishers. I already have some great stories. So send me your stories as well. Thanks. Email: johnkremer@bookmarket.com.

Or, you can add your story here as a comment to this blog post. That way other people in the network can read the stories as well. Again, thanks.

How to Use This Network

Someone on my page asked me to tell a little more about how to use this network. Here was part of my answer:

I'm not sure what to say about the ins and outs of social networking. The key is to find people you like or who interest you on this network and then invite them to do more with you. Talk. Promote together. Share ideas. Network.

To find interesting people, scan through the people on the network, especially the new people as they come on. Also read the blogs. That's a… Continue

Ning now allows music on your pages!!!

You can now add music to your individual pages. Ning has just added this capability to your pages. You'll find music on this front page as well (but, as the creator of this group, I'm the only one who can add music to the opening page). Personalize your page now with your own music.

Note: I have to rely on Ning to add capabilities to this network. Since I'm not a programmer, I don't have any idea how to add plug-ins or such unless Ning makes them available.

Enjoy the… Continue

Selling Books on the New York City Subway

The following post is excerpted from Fred Gleeck's ezine, Fred Gleeck Insights. Fred is a great marketer. He tells a great story here:

I love New York! One of the days when I was running around like a chicken

with it's head cut off on the subway I saw this guy hawking something

further down the subway car. In my typical NYer style I averted my

gaze, hoping not be accosted to give him money.

Lucky I couldn't do it. I squinted…

180 and counting

Several points: 192 photos -- and counting! Check them out.

1. Congrats to all the people who have joined this network. I've seen a lot of people helping other people already. That's why I founded the network.

2. Please note that I don't OWN this network. It's not my site. It's your site. My site is BookMarket.com. That's where I sell things and control the content. Here I don't control the content. You do. I just started up this network so people could share.

Making Friends

Some people here still don't know what to do with friends -- whether or not to invite other members of the network to be their friends, why have friends, how to use them, etc. So, here's my advice:

First, collect friends. They make you look good. Plus friends can lead to real friendships and relationships. We can all use more friends.

Second, all friends become part of your address book so you can email them directly, either singly or in groups, if you have a message to… Continue

172 and Counting ... Invite More Friends!

I'm back from the CIPA Conference. A great weekend. Lots of good people. I've invited them to join the network. We'll see who joins in the next week.

I am enjoying this network and adding lots of new friends. Please take time to add a blog post at some point and add some content to your personal page so we can get to know each other. I've been going around to different people's pages and seeing what they are doing. It's really nice to see all the pictures and finally put…

Adding Friends in the Book Marketing Network

If you ad friends in this network -- and they accept your invitation -- their Ning contact info will be included in your Address Book (which you can access by clicking on the small envelope in the upper left corner of any page.

Then it is easier for you to send a direct message to any of your friends via the network (again accessible to them via their little envelope in the upper left corner of any page). Via that envelope icon, you can click on it and access any messages others in the… Continue

Ning and Amazon.com

Ryan Richardson just sent me a chatter message on my page here. I thought his suggestion was good so I'm adding it here as a blog post.

"You guys should read and recommend each other's books on Amazon. Refer to this Ning site and then other authors will want to join this site.
Within time, all your books will be flying off the shelves if you work
together on Ning AND Amazon."

BMN Rearrangements

Regular visitors to this network will note that I rearranged the layout so the blog entries and forums are at the tip since that's what most people are using. I also put the photos higher to encourage more people to submit their photos. The videos are still here, but more down the page in the center. Also the popular members are still here, but lower on the left.

Using Book Marketing Network

It seems like most network members are using the blog posts rather than the forums to communicate. And I can see why. The blog posts are much more visible. To really use this network and create good working relationships with others on this network, also check out the network home pages for each member. The home pages on BMN feature all a users blog posts, comments, forum posts, photos, videos posted, etc.

Also check out the forums. While they are less visible, they are…

75 and Counting

Well, we're up to 75 people in this network. And some nice activity. Check out Steve Weber's Plug Your Book post. His book looks great. It seems to have some action points I did not cover in the new edition of 1001 Ways to Market Your Books. You can sample his book free. You can sample his book here:

Do any of you Twitter?

I just discovered an interesting website with lots of activity. It's called Twitter.com, and it is designed to keep friends and other interested parties informed about what you are doing -- especially via cell phone text messages (which you can access either via the website, IM, or your cell phone.

I'm going to use it to let people who become my followers or friends (two categories in Twitter) -- to let them know whenever I update a page on my website. As I Twitter, the…
