Smart enough to listen to good advice when I hear it

My Dad has always been a source of wisdome and common sense in my life. Even though I am long grown up, (debate on that point may be open), he stil manages to share with me little nuggetts from time to time, and I like to think of myself as smart enough to listen to good advice when I hear it. The following was written by George Carlin, and came to my attention via my Dad. You may have seen it, or heard about it, but it’s still profound and worth sharing.

"Hey Dad, what's your favorite part of your job?"

At dinner last night, my son hit me with a BIG question. There are always questions, especially with 10 year olds, but this was a BIG question. I work as a physical therapist in a nursing home, and spend a lot of time helping people who, because of physical and mental impairments, can't help themselves. Before You Go

For those that don’t know me, and those that are getting to know me, my family is the one thing in my life that means everything. Of course, my wife and kids are precious, but my extended family is the source of who I am and how I look at life in general. My Uncle Bob, my Dad’s brother, recently sent me an Email and link I would like to share with everyone. As a "day job", I am a physical therapist in a nursing home. I am honored and priveleged everyday to work with some of the finest… Continue

On Writing, (with apologies to Stephen King)

A number of people have asked me recently how I write. They say things like, “You know, I have always wanted to write a book, but I don’t…” And here you can fill in the blanks. Enough time, enough talent, know what to write about, know if I’m interesting enough, know if people would like my stories, know if they’d like me. So I thought I would write some of my thoughts about writing from an Everyman perspective.

These are just my ideas, not at all Gospel. I am a middle-aged guy with no… Continue
