It Should Be Obvious

Brenda Farrar-Ejemai is the author of the book/documentary: The Family In The Car, A Revelation. In this on-time documentary she depicts a familly surviving on the streets of New York City who were once sheltered and somewhat privileged.

It describes a working class family struggling through the homeless shelters of New York City, including the boroughs of The Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn, all while working in Brooklyn.

That was over 17 years ago. Now New York City is planning… Continue

Black Men and White Women - An Epidemic?

This once taboo of a black man seeking and being seen with a white woman is no more. Not too long ago black men were beaten to death or lynched for this very act.

I don't know if it's due to the election of Barack Obama to the presidency, or everyone now sees racism in this country as dead and buried; but it seems to be a growing trend to see a "brotha" on the arms of a Caucasian woman these days.

Are they trying to say that a black man being seen with a white woman is an honor… Continue

Don't Want to Live, But Afraid to Die

Don’t Want To Live

But Afraid To Die

You have no escape from the trials, heartaches, and despair. You are forced to live even though living is painful and something you would rather not have to endure. It’s called being tired of being tired.

It feels as though you are a run down car with no more combustion in the engine to even light a small spark. After so many start and go events you have just run out of reserve, and your tank is near empty. There is no more… Continue

The Lord Is Not Your Husband

Lord yes, Lover no

Coming Spring, 2009!

Placed in human beings are the needs and desires necessary for reproduction. Along with these natural desires, comes personal gratification, as well as, pleasure. All of these are important to the continuance of the life cycle. Without them, humanity would become… Continue

When Night Falls

When Night Falls

When night falls, do you have a place to lay your head?

Or do you search for a cubby hole or a card board box to crawl into?

Maybe you’re blessed enough to have relatives or friends,

Or maybe you’re not.

While it is day, it’s okay

You can walk the streets or seek shelter in a mall or restaurant.

But when night falls,

It’s natural to find a place to lie.

While others are going into their abodes and shutting the… Continue

Caged

Caged

Freedom to dwell wherever I tread

Not confined to locations with boundaries

Zoning, districts, busing

Unleash me so I can roam free

To see mountains and rivers and trees of all sorts

To open up and breathe in fresh air

Somewhere where the sky is not blocked

but in plain view

Uncage me so I can go FREE.

Holding On

Holding On

Reaching, reaching I can’t stop now.
I have got to make it no matter how.
Stepping stepping, I’ve got to keep the pace
Grace, more grace to run this race.

How Do You Really Feel?

How Do You Really Feel?

Good morning.

How are you?

I’m fine.

How are you?

Are you always fine when you say those words?

Or are you being repetitious in your everyday greetings.

If you stop to say how you really feel,

Your morning greetings might turn into evening goodnights.

A Blank Sheet

A Blank Sheet

They enter blameless into this world, like a blank sheet of paper.

New, fresh, clean, spotless,

Just waiting to be written on,

Who will be the first to write?

Will it be Ms. Incest, Mr. and Mrs. Poverty, Madam Rape to name a few?

Or, maybe Sir Death will sign in before the others do.

Existing

Existing

Noises, curses, poverty all around

There’s hardly a moment when there is no sound.

Sad faces, stagnation, ambitions low.

Nothing is fast, it all seems so slow.

You Alone

You Alone

You wish to move that block of stone,

to make an opening,

to pave a way.

You steadily push it before you.

Sometimes you tire.

But somehow, within, you find the strength to push.

Your walk is like beach sand.

IT IS ONLY YOU

Worry

WORRY

Worry is to feel or express great care and anxiety, to fret. To worry is to have something constantly on the mind and agonizing over it. It can give a sick feeling. It can also be expressed through speech and action. The mind is agitated and there are complaints, there is impatience and irritability. In other words, there is no peace.

Sometimes worry can consume hours, days even weeks out of your life. You try to throw it off, but it clings like static. It clings… Continue

THE GOAL - Part of a Motivational Series

THE GOAL

It’s like reaching for something far away. If you keep on reaching and running without stopping, you will obtain what you are reaching for. Persevering, not quitting, but going after it with all your might, as though you have to have it; that’s the driving force. Don’t look at time

as a barrier. Look at it this way, the years are going to pass anyway, so why not accomplish what you wish.

The battle starts in your mind, that’s where it is. It is a… Continue

JUST A FOUR LETTER WORD

JUST A FOUR LETTER WORD

Just a four letter word with powerful meaning

Something to hang onto when there is no rope left

Nothing tangible, nothing you can touch

Yet we cling to it, some for dear life

REALLY!

HOPE, the little four letter word

It has kept many holding on to it,

When there was no reason to trust its magic,

Nor its ability to keep them from falling

Can’t imagine the… Continue
