Carson In Washington

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5,6

On Saturday, Bobby and I put Carson on an airplane and he flew off by himself to Washington, DC. Five months ago, when his teacher nominated him to go to the Junior National Young Leaders Conference, I had some serious doubts. He's only eleven, he's never been away from home without his… Continue

Clean and Clear

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Psalm 139:23,24

Every night before the boys go to sleep, I spend a few minutes with them. I lay down beside them, ask them about their day, chat a bit and then we pray. Afterwards, the lights go out and out they go as well.

A while back, Carson was having some behavior problems, he was just not himself. It… Continue

The Gift

But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6:23

Once upon a time there was a King of a mighty kingdom. He was a good King and he loved his people very much. One day he called twelve of his top leaders to come to him. He had a surprise for them. He gave them each a gift. A fabulous, marvelous gift. A gift like none they had ever seen before. He told his men to go out and share this gift with the rest of his people... the gift was limitless. They would… Continue

More Than I Expected

And my God will meet all your needs acording to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

I was telling someone about my vacation and I made the statement that it was more than I had expected. I had thought we'd have a good time, but I wasn't really sure if the boys would be in best friend or worst enemy mode. It can go either way on any given day. And can change instantly, without warning.

Throw in the fact that we were going without Bobby, and I… Continue

Victory Over Aquatica

For God hath not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)

As I mentioned the other day, the boys and I are in Orlando. As my friend, Cindy, said, "A kid's dream vacation." And she's right. I really didn't plan it that way, but when you have two little boys, well, you do things that they like. And that's okay. I enjoy seeing them happy. I didn't want to spend the whole week at the theme parks, so I told… Continue

Jesus Loves U

Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.

Psalm 36:5

The boys and I are in Orlando this week, taking a bit of a vacation. Bobby couldn't get the week off, with his new job, but since we had already booked our week, I decided I would bring the boys myself, which is a major accomplishment in itself. Just a few years ago, I would never take off somewhere with the boys for a week, by myself, but that might be another story for… Continue

Chase's Progress

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.

Proverbs 4:23

I told you a while back about Chase's summer challenge. If he reads fifty Chapter Books, he will get a Wii for his birthday in August. Well, he made himself a little chart and he started reading books. And each week, he has checked how many books he's read, how many days he has left and how many books he still needs to fit in.

We are going to Orlando next week for vacation, and Chase… Continue

Ripping Off The Band-Aid

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. If the Son there shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

John 8:32, 36

One evening I was at the boys’ baseball game, and I noticed that Chase was limping so badly that he couldn't play. All the other boys were out on the field having a good time, and he was sitting in the dugout, twiddling his thumbs. I asked him why he wasn't out on the field playing, and he said his foot hurt. I remembered that he… Continue

Learning To Walk

A man's steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand his own way.

Proverbs 20:24

Yesterday we were watching some old videos from when the boys were little. We happened to have one on of Chase's first birthday. It was the day he learned to walk. He was so cute. He'd wobble just a bit and then he'd plop down and then he'd manuever himself back up and walk a few more steps before he'd plop down again.

And sometimes Carson would go over,… Continue

We Are Marshall

Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don't try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.

James 1: 2-4 (The Message)

I just watched a really good movie, and it so impacted me, I cannot, not write about it. In November of 1970, there was a… Continue

I Read The Instructions

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

Psalm 119:11

Carson got a new watch the other day. He was so cute the next morning, showing me all the things that his watch could do. He showed me the alarm, the snooze, the stop watch and about 10 other features. This little watch could do everything! He knew what button to push for what and how long to push it. I was amazed and asked him how he knew how to do all that stuff.

His answer, "I… Continue

Having A Bad Hair Day

The joy of the Lord is your strength.

Nehemiah 8:10

My little Carson was having a bad hair day today. Literally. And it affected a good part of his day. He is letting his hair grow a bit and it's starting to be a little too long for him to control. He went to bed with it wet last night, so when he woke up this morning, it was sticking up all over his head. He looked really cute, for home. But not for Vacation Bible School. I tried to comb it for him, but he didn't… Continue

Nothing Is Impossible With Jesus

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

Hebrews 11:1

The other night Chase and I were out playing fetch with Zeke. Chase was chasing Zeke around while Zeke was fetching the ball. It's a fun game that the boys like to play. Sorta like tag, but Zeke is always it! Chase and I were chattering away, when he looked up and noticed that the stars were starting to come out. "Look Mommy," he said, "there's a star!" I asked him if he made a… Continue
