Last chance for the E-class: The Gatekeepers starts June 7, 2010

THE GATEKEEPERS: All About Agents and Editors—Getting them, working with them, and growing as a career author

The Course Objectives

In order to succeed in this industry, you, the writer, must know it intimately from all sides. If you were a clothing designer: you wouldn’t start without creative talent, the right materials, and a pattern to guide you. If you opened up a retail business, you wouldn’t expect to: sell your products without knowing how to produce or… Continue

E-class starts soon: Publish That Book: How to Write a Nonfiction Book Proposal That Sells

Let me show you through my intense, 8-week-long workshop how to get a nonfiction book proposal ready for publishers. This is your opportunity to gain a serious business advantage over other writers who will try to wing it. And even if your first book doesn’t sell, you will have the skills and the template to apply to other ideas and other projects. You may even come up with more ideas for more books as you work through this course.

And my workshop is different. I keep the classes small… Continue

Your ‘Just Do It’ Appointment

Researching markets, ugh.

Checking statistics, ugh.

Finding agents, ugh.

Noting preferences, ugh.

Writing queries, ugh.

Not selling, argh.

may be bitching to anyone who will listen but you’re not selling. “It’s

a bad market,” you say; “I missed the window,” you… Continue

I'll Be the Shoe

Okay, on this game board of life, I'm jumping into publishing now

with both feet. I've read some of the books, (thank you Kremer,

Reiss, Poynter, Levine and some others), and have run a lot

of numbers. I've even got my first employee and looking for free work

from my husband.

What I want to know about now is: Talk to me About Distribution. Do you

have a wholesaler? What type of distributor did you enlist? Do we need

them? Can you share some bad… Continue

Book Publishing Fear

Okay, I have ten traditionally published nonfiction books that I've done and they all have been alright experiences. But now I am tired of the query letter and submission process, don't want to wait a year to find out if I'm in "the 10% club" again, SO, I'm thinking about becoming a publisher and running some of my own books.

I've purchased several books on the process: Dan Poynter's Self-Publishing Manual, Mark Levine's The Fine Print and Fern Reiss' The Publishing Game.… Continue
