We’ve all heard the praises of this illustrious man, admired for his keen ability to draw insights from politicians and to bring out issues that most wondered about. He was an exemplary family man and a leader in demonstrating compassion toward those who knew him.

But a comment made about him makes me sigh with a hint of jealousy. Someone said that he gave a new meaning and purpose for Sunday mornings as he had an “insatiable hunger to know the truth.”

Wow! I’d like to be in that position when I die: that someone would say I had that thirst to know God’s truth and that every Sunday I stepped into my church in corporate worship, my hunger to know the truth resonated in me. Not only that, but throughout the week, it would be evident that I diligently applied it to my life. Sigh. The desires that churn in my heart and the reality are often as distant as the Atlantic from the Pacific Ocean.

How can I deny that there are times during the week where unexpected challenges jab angst, my human fallacies surface, insecurities rattle decision- making moments, and my human emotions, preconceived, and flawed slam me on the mat of disappointment.

Hmm…could it be that I made myself a bit too arrogant in thinking that the truth might be carried on by my own power and ability? My little ol’ self? The truth is, the real truth is, that Holy Spirit has a major, and enormous part to play in my reactions, my outlook, and attitude.

Liberating solution: I decided to take a deep breath, inhale His power, and relinquish the control over my life, allowing God’s Spirit to flow through me to dispel any fear, or apprehension to tackle all tasks, pleasant or challenging.

Freedom, relief, and reassurance filter through when settling in the comfort of His Word - the only truth, that sings of His commitment to you and to me. From Sunday morning, throughout the week, night or day, with each tick of the clock, He whispers, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you” (Psalm 32:8 NIV).

Comforting, isn’t it? Nestled in that truth from God’s lips, we can face today with His Word that brings a new, fresh and invigorating reassurance.

Praying your thirst for the only truth be satisfied with God’s promises, available, trustworthy, and unwavering.
