Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
Proverbs 4:23

I told you a while back about Chase's summer challenge. If he reads fifty Chapter Books, he will get a Wii for his birthday in August. Well, he made himself a little chart and he started reading books. And each week, he has checked how many books he's read, how many days he has left and how many books he still needs to fit in.

We are going to Orlando next week for vacation, and Chase wanted to take the week off, if he could, but still hit his goal. And the kids been doing great.

Tonight, he came to me and showed me that he has now read forty books, he only has ten to go, and he can skip all next week and still meet the challenge.

But, he had to constantly be checking his progress, to see where he was at, so that he wouldn't miss out on his Wii.

We need to do the same thing in our journey of faith. We need to stop every now and again, sooner rather than later, and check our spirits. My friends and I call it, Heart Check. We need to see if we are filled with peace or if we are unsettled and unconnected inside. If peace reigns, we are probably where we should be. If not, well, we need to stop and examine why not?

Usually some sort of sin has kinked our connection with God and if we don't find it and un-kink it, we will only drift farther and farther away. God won't go anywhere, but we end up feeling lost and alone, because our sin has seperated us from God's spirit. But the sooner we realize it, the sooner we can repent and get back into His peace, back under His protection, towards our goal of being in tune with Him.

So my question for you is ... got any kinks in your hose? Today's a good day for a heart check.

Father, thank you that you give us a guide to where we are in our journey - your peace. I always know I'm right where I need to be when peace reigns. But I also know, when my spirit is unsettled, that something is up and I need to adjust something, most usually it's my attitude! Thank you for your patience, for never moving, even when I drift off. And Lord, thank you for Chase's desire and willingness to hit his goal, and allowing him to enjoy reading books. He didn't think he could do it when he started, now he knows it is possible, it just takes some effort. Lord, I didn't have a clue how to walk with you, but you've showed me how and I have so enjoyed the process!

I Love You Jesus.
In Your Name I Pray,
Amen

God Bless You!

Love,
Joyce
