Technology or Tradition

There is a powerful debate that is going on in this country with regard to stem cell research. Stem cell research is an awesome thing and has shown great promise for a number of previously hopeless conditions. The debate comes in when the sources for the stem cell originate from. Most stem cells originate from human embryos. These embryos are obtained from a few sources but the bottom line is every embryo that is used for stem cell research means that an embryo has to be destroyed. Those who are pro choice are totally against destroying any life under any circumstances. Those who are pro life have no problem with the stem cell process. Personally I fell that stem research is a great thing that can really help many individuals. The question that is most important is when human life actually starts. Some say it begins at fertilization and some say it begins when with an actual fetus. I personally fell that life begins when a nervous system and a brain develops. Those are the things that make us unique from any other species including our closest relatives. I know that there have been great advancements in the human reproduction and the ability for grandmothers to carry infants and for men who never thought they would be able to father a child to become fathers. I know that stem research is a great thing and just like with any great thing that man has done there is going to be people who are not in agreement. The variable in all of our views is if we ourselves or our loved ones will benefit from stem cell research at any given moment. I am sure people’s views and opinions are quite different during unforeseen circumstances.
