Promote Your Book on Social Networking Sites

If you participate on the Book Marketing Network, you already know that social networking is a great book promotion tool. But don't stop here. There are dozens of other social networking sites that offer a great opportunity for reaching your target audience of readers.

The two major social networks are obvious choices: MySpace and Facebook. In June 2008, MySpace had 118 million unique visitors worldwide; Facebook had 132 million (an increase of 153 percent from the previous year).

Also consider sites dedicated to books such as Shelfari, Good Reads, and Red Room.

And don't forget niche sites that fit your target reader profile. There are social networking sites for dog lovers, moms, skiers, surfers, mystery lovers, romance readers, and dozens more. Take a look at Wikipedia's list of social networking sites to get started, but don't stop there. Some of the best sites I've found recently I discovered through Google searches or just surfing interesting blogs.

There's no doubt about it; social networking is one of a writer's best tools to market and promote themselves and their books. To add a few to your list, I suggest Booktown, Nurture your Books and Book Blogs.
