For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers
My name is Phil harris and I host two separate internet radio shows-both called ALL THINGS THAT MATTER. One show is on internetvoicesradio.com and the other is on BlogTalkRadio.com. As an author I have found these two shows to be an excellent outlet for authors and non-authors to promote their ideas to a wider audience. I do not do fluff but rather focus upon issues like books with a real messages that are inspirational, aim to teach humanity the errors of its ways, expose abuses and seek to serve as a guide to those in need. My shows also cover politics, climate change, foreign policy, trends in literature, spiritual and religious issues and, well, "all things that matter."
The shows do not make new authors an overnight success but they do serve to broaden the reach of new authors and thinkers. Any writer will tell you that to make a mark you have to be 'out there' through all possible means. Internet talk radio is one outlet that all budding and aspiring authors should examine and cultivate. Podcasts are generally available after the interviews and these become tools to further market your ideas.
I would stay away from stations that charge authors for an interview. I think word gets around and it is like paying for a book review-no offense intended. There are many internet stations that do not charge and Francine Silverman has a new book out that lists many of these stations.
If any authors are looking for advice about being interviewed on internet radio or have any questions, let me know and I will try to answer as best I can. Most of my shows this summer are of a spiritual "how to" nature. In the fall I will be spending some time doing some shows by genre with the hope of giving listeners some do's and don'ts-and of course to publicize the authors book. However, my main motivation is to get people to think about what the authors have to say, promotion is only a natural offshoot.
As you develop your marketing plans be sure to include internet radio.
