After a wonderful time at the Conflux 5 writer’s conference in Canberra (Australia) followed by a lovely tour around southern New South Wales and the mountainous regions of northern Victoria, I am well and truly back home.

Australia has some truly magnificent and beautiful landscapes. Never have I felt more humble than while standing on the coast, looking out to the ocean or standing amongst the tallest mountains of Victoria. These amazing parts of nature have been here since long before I was born and will be here long after I die.

There is much to be said about looking outside the bubble of your reality to see how much more there truly is.

Being back home means, unfortunately, back to work tomorrow. However, the conference and following holiday did exactly what I hoped they would. I am now ready to work towards striking the balance between the three women I am:

The Wife
The Writer
The Worker

I am stepping back from a couple of my blogging jobs because they are not improving me in my career or my personal life. While the income is wonderful and much needed, I simply cannot abide the soul-sucking turn my life started to take in the weeks leading up to my time away. Easy paid work may be desirable for some, but it was slowly chipping away at my spirit. So I move on to greener paddocks.

Should my timing work out as I hope, I will be starting a line of work where I help authors start and/or maintain blogs. This will involve everything from basic set up to post editing and related assistance. Being there to help people on their way will be much more fulfilling for me and will hopefully enable me to continue to pay my bills.

I’m also going to take daily time for private creative writing. I have no doubts that the ‘soul-sucked’ feeling is partially due to my lack of creative writing over the past two years.

As for my physical well-being, next on the agenda for both me and my husband is buying an exercise machine so we can both get into a healthier place.

It’s going to take some adjustment, but I’m looking forward to it.
