There’s no such a thing, is there? Since I’ve not found games specifically for the blind, just about any game can be adjusted to those with low vision. I remember playing horseshoes when I lost my sight. Someone stands by the target spot and taps the metal, creating the sound to guide my aim. Sighted folks use their eyes to see where to throw; I use my hearing with the same goal.

Through the years I’ve tried crazy things, even drove a car once. But last night my son invited me to play tennis. And I enthusiastically agreed. This game is played right indoors with the new game, WII made by Nintendo. What a hoot…it was great. I actually won.

Here’s the trick: I had to listen, really listen to the sound—the racket hitting the ball, then the bounce, I give a quick swing. And then, SMACK! I hit that ball. What a great feeling when my son shouted, “Good hit!”

It’s nothing that demands talent or skill. It’s just in the timing, the perfect timing blended with careful listening.

When life bounces tough times, disappointments and gloomy days at us, God’s timing is also right on. And I do believe it’s because He listens, really listens to our moments of fear, our nervous reactions, the rumbling of our uncertain moves and even our foolish actions. He listens to it all and He knows the moment when we’re about to snap. Then, He swings a Word of encouragement, a promise that erases doubt and an instruction that takes you to a place of peace.

If you’d not experienced this, it might be that you’re keeping your eye on the circumstance and thus haven’t listened. Remember Hannah and her pleas to God for a child? Her eyes were so focused on that want. But when she prayed, just simply prayed, God swung His answer. His timing was perfect, perhaps not for Hannah, but perfect according to His purpose.

Are you waiting for God to untangle that financial mess, or, like me, scratch your head at the vicious campaign tactics? Or perhaps life just piled on you like bricks? Hang in there, because “…The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry. The eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His unfailing love” (Psalm 34:15 and 33:18).

When on God’s team, the victory is in the horizon. Be still. The ending score will leave you in awe.
Thank you, Jesus, that in the game of life, where the world’s darkness grows, when I think I’m alone, as if carrying the burden all by myself, “…You have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways” (Psalm 139:1-3).

Lord, you are familiar with all the details, you know it all…and that reassurance is all I need in order to face one more day, to rekindle hope, and once again let joy seep into my soul.
