Wow. What a great feeling! There in the front of the Mandalay Bay Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip was the marquee with my book cover in full color and the announcement of my book signing at 2 pm today. Just think, it was only Wednesday, three days ago, when Kirk Douglas’ name was up there advertising his new book and he was the one appearing at The Reading Room in Mandalay Place . Today it was me! I had always thought that one day my name would be on a marquee on the Las Vegas Strip but I had thought I would be for producing a show of some sort. Instead, it was my book, “You Are More Than Enough: Every Woman’s Guide to Purpose, Passion, and Power” that was 16 feet high.
The book signing went very well. When I arrived at the meeting room, they had a table set up in the foyer along with a microphone and chairs for about twenty people. Charlotte, my assistant, decorated the table with beautiful blue cloths and gold stars (my trademark) and the Reading Room had beautiful posters at the foot of the escalator between the Casino at Mandalay Bay and the shops at Mandalay Place . I gave about a twenty minute presentation on the book. My voice was giving out on me as I have been ill with a sinus infection and cough for about a week and this was my first time up and about. But the people didn’t seem to mind.
Several people asked some rather intriguing questions which gave me the opportunity to give a short synopsis of each chapter in the book. One lady who attended the book signing at Border’s here in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago, came to this book signing to get a book for her mother. She said her mother had borrowed her book and it looked like the only way she was going to get it back was buy her mother a copy for herself.
So many men are buying the book that I sometimes think I should have named it, “You Are More Than Enough: Every Person’s Guide to Purpose, Passion, and Power”. But I guess it will just have to be a sequel entitled, “Men Are Enough, Too!” And for the ones that show up from the internet dating sight, we’ll have a special edition entitled, “You Are Too Much.”
As usual, Loren was there. He’s the representative for this part of the country for Stephens Press, my publisher. It’s so great to have this kind of support. He arrives, checks with the book store owner that everything is in order, delivers bookmarks to be given away, meets and greets people, and generally makes sure that things go well. It’s always nice to look up during a presentation and see his smiling face.
All the while, the book signing was going on, there was another marquee flashing for people using the escalator to have a preview of the events happening at the Mandalay Bay and every few minutes there was my book and my face. They ran this for 24 hours. I must admit, it was almost as exciting as looking at the first copy of the book. Almost.
