The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

Hello all.

I was just asked by my boss yesterday if I liked my job and what I was doing. I couldn't put into words the absolute joy I take in my job each day. It certainly does not feel like a JOB, as many of my other employment opportunities have. Here are several reasons why:

  • I am asked what my opinion is, daily, by authors, my boss and other book industry colleagues, and people actually consider what I have to say as being important.
  • I am proud to tell people what I do, and it's funny when I go to any social function and tell people I am in publishing, because invariably I hear next, "I wrote a book, we should get together for lunch," or, "I know someone who wrote a book, maybe they should get in touch with you."
  • The fact that I spend my day pitching the media for our books, mailing things out, and doing visits to bookstores and libraries, does not seem like work.
  • I went to school for this, and I am actually using my Master's degree. (You can too... just visit www.emerson.edu for more info).
  • It has motivated me to get my writer's self into gear and get those book ideas started. Finally.
  • My husband says I seem more relaxed at the end of the day than ever before.
  • I get to work at home (there are some drawbacks to this too but more advantages than not). One of which is saving on gas, no small feat these days. Also, my garden gets watered a bit more than it used to. :)
  • My dog thinks I am home solely to play with him all day, which makes him happy.
  • I have a flexible schedule to allow for surprise family visits, spontaneous grocery shopping needs, walks, visits with my neighbor and other wonderful things.
