The Book Marketing Network

For book/ebook authors, publishers, & self-publishers

Hi everyone, you are all cordially invited to the Sleep Before Evening book launch, Thurs 30th Aug, 11am, Angus & Robertson, Newcastle Mall, 147 Hunter St, Newcastle NSW (Australia). Now I know Australia is a long way for most of you, so won't be too hurt if you can't make it! But if any of you do happen to live in NSW, please do come and say hello. Most of what I do is virtual, and it would be lovely to bridge that gap and actually shake hands.

Things are hotting up in promoland, and I’m feeling a vague nag that I’ve got to get back to Black Cow, my next novel. I can certainly see how blogging would be addictive. Once you get in the habit, topics seem to be everywhere, and composing mini editorial seems to happen continually in the head. Check out the interview at Aussie Authors, and insightful reviews from The Rose and Thorn
, The New Book Review and Book Pleasures. As for guest blogs, I’ve talked about the fictive dream and its relationship to polemics at Gather, combining parenting with writing at vjad.net, and soon will be able to direct you to pieces which discuss whether the proliferation of ‘best of’ lists is a good thing, on the relationship between independent bookshops and independent publishers, on words and recovery, and more. I’m resisting setting up my own only because I fear I’d never write another novel again. But I am excited about the new Compulsive Reader talks radio show. The show features interviews with authors, book readings, and good literary chat (and guests come from around the world -- the whole thing happens with Skype, so there's no call costs, etc). Our first guest was Ross Duncan, author of All Those Bright Crosses (Picador), and it was a very interesting half hour. The interview plays automatically when you visit the CR Talks link above, or you can download it to your favourite MP3 player through the 5 or so button options on the site (I downloaded it to my itunes and then onto my ipod (yeah, gadget addict...), and it worked really well. All the best--hope your own projects are progressing smoothly. Maggie
