The other day I wrinkled my nose at the advances in technology. But I have to admit, with tears dribbling down, my heart stirred in amazement at all it can bring to light.

Since my oldest son and his wife will make us grandparents for the first time, I decided to pen the joy that bursts in my heart by creating a diary. In it I relate the events that dot our world while God knits together the miracle in my daughter’s-in-law womb.

To my astonishment and to God’s glory, medical advances now reveal details never seen before—one can literally peek at His miracle in the making.

Hence, following the various stages of the baby’s development, I write letters to my granddaughter-in-the-making.

I’d like to share the latest one with you:

Dearest little baby,

This month offers a bouquet of sweet events.

Your parents visited the doctor and through a latest ultra-sound 3-D procedure, they watched your every move.

At one point, your daddy said you smiled at him, then stretched your tiny body and licked your arm. Your mommy saw you suck your thumb, and she even said you batted your eyelashes!

This Saturday, your mommy will see a pour-out of gifts at her first baby shower. And guess what! You’ll be the featured star. Your daddy will have your movements and detailed images displayed on a screen for all of us to gaze in awe.

According to studies this 31-week of development, you’re practicing gazing as well, have hair on your head, and toenails. Your brain is already capable of memory, learning, and processing sights and sounds.

I wonder what you think of your world so far? Did you smile when you sensed your mommy’s relief when your daddy landed the job of his dreams in computer animation? He started his new position at the beginning of this month.

And did you hear the singing and applause on Aug. 5th? Your daddy made the public statement that he chose to follow Christ and obey His word by taking the step to be baptized.

He and your mommy are committed to follow Christ. They’re active in their church. A delight for me knowing they’ll bring you up in the knowledge of the Lord.

As Tests show your brain is developing rapidly, I pray each cell will soak up wisdom drawn from His Word. And your heart will beat to the rhythm of His love.

Only a few weeks to go and you’ll be seeing the light of the outside world. And you’ll continue to take the steps God carefully and specifically ordained just for you.

As He knit you together in your mommy’s womb, He wove inside me the kind of love no writer has ever been able to express, no choir able to sing nor poet able to rhyme.

But precious baby, my love is but a speck of dust compare to the greatness of the love God whispers as His fingers mold your every cell.

Your grandma…

Janet
