Yes, she does…and not from an expensive pedicure. In fact, when I was Debbie’s age, unlike her, my focus was on my looks, the perfect hairstyle, being popular, having enough clothes to flatter my figure, and the guy who would be my next date.

But Debbie’s focus is on greater things---she visits public high schools in New York City, bringing the good news, the Gospel, to students who are hurting, angry, confused, in turmoil, and possibly heading to destruction.

In her job as a missionary, she faces opposition, ridicule, disappointment, and hardships. Yet she forges on to bring Jesus to the hearts of New York teenagers.

Recently, she related this incident:

"Did you notice I did not talk much at the club today?" Anna said.

I had noticed that Anna, who is not all that talkative anyway, was even more quiet than normal during the Christian Club Meeting. In fact, she had not said a word!

It turns out that she had a lot on her mind. She was struggling with anger towards her mother who left her with an aunt in NYC and returned to Jamaica when she was 3 years old.

It broke my heart to hear all the pain that she was feeling as she poured out her heart--for the first time. When she was done, I realized that she had two choices--to either hold on to the pain or give it up and forgive. We talked about what this meant.

When I asked her why she would ever be able to forgive her mom, she said "because she didn't really mean to hurt me". I said that was not enough.... the only reason we could ever forgive anyone who hurt us so deeply was because we have been forgiven.

I shared God's love and forgiveness with her that day and she made a decision to receive His forgiveness for her life. I wish you could have heard her prayer to the Lord!

I just met with her again yesterday and she was already able to talk to her mom and tell her how she felt. She was able to practice forgiveness and it gave her hope of a relationship with her mom.

This is just the beginning of an answer to prayer for ‘Transformed Lives’ this year. Please pray that God will continue to change lives--one at a time—until it overflows to the whole school!” Debbie

"How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" (Romans 10:14-15)

I sigh as I sip my herbal tea from the comfort of my home, resolving to forget the pedicure, instead think of ways to have the beautiful feet like Debbie’s.

For now, I just let my words be the steps to bring messages of hope to those who might visit my cyberspace home.
