Stickiing your neck out can hurt, but it's worth the pain.

I experienced that very thing recently. With convictions stirring in my heart, I penned my thoughts regarding the filth that fills TV and movie theaters. Phew! Did I get blasted big time. Here’s an excerpt of what I wrote:

"I scratch my head - how did we slither to this point? What used to be shocking is now a standard scene in film. What was appalling is now accepted by most. And what fell into the "crude" category now creates a hunger for more."

And I expanded a bit more in the "opinion" section of the largest newspaper in Orlando. And boy, did the comments come in.

But the craziest thing was those who wrote negative remarks included them on the "comment" section of the newspaper. But those who praised and agreed with my position, wrote me privately.

I thought I’d include a positive note I received. You might be interested in this if you have children or grandchildren. Here it is:

"Janet, I wanted to thank you for your article ‘Shame on them? Or Shame on us?’ It was a great message and I appreciate you sharing. I was wondering if you had heard of Clearplay. We have had it for quite sometime now and it is has allowed our family to enjoy many movies we would otherwise never watched.

We have very strict rules about foul language, sex etc. in our house, TV or movies. That is why we do not watch TV. Clearplay is a DVD player you can get at Target. You rent any movie you want and go to the Clearplay website and download the filter for that movie on the USB. It has settings like language, sex, vulgarity, violence, mushiness, etc. Then you plug it into the USB, choose your settings and watch a great movie."

Now that I have a granddaughter, I’m more aware of the evil that can creep into our household if we’re not careful. So we need to, "be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves (Matthew 10:16).

Janet
