A little whimper, a little joy…

“Hey, Mom, where’s the Cool Whip for the pie!” my middle son calls out.

“Did you see that play?” my oldest sits at the edge of the couch, cheering at the football game.

“Great salad, Mary,” I smile at my friend who has joined our family on Thanksgiving Day for the past few years.

Those are the usual comments that used to echo about dinnertime on Thanksgiving Day.

Now, something wonderful has been added (drum roll)…a new and most precious Angel sounds off, filling my home with a delightful melody—my new granddaughter.

At one month old, she has turned our life upside down. Nothing is the same. Squeals of exhilaration pour from everyone at the slightest whimper. Ooh and aah sound off when she whimpers, puckers her tiny mouth, and even when she hiccups.

All of us hold dreams for her, desires to give her a life of joy, abundance, prosperity, health, and incredible success.

Why shouldn’t we? She is a gift; a treasure created by God and sent perhaps to add a new dimension of pleasure to our days.

After everyone left, the house was silent. Dishes dried, leftovers put away, I eased on our couch and reflected on that very joy that burst in my heart. Could that be the same pleasure God felt when I said yes to Him, and became part of His family?

There’s not the slightest doubt He did rejoice. I was a lost sheep and he gently scooped me in. I became His.

He had dreams for me, and He still has--promises of abundance, prosperity, peace, and success.

If we, with such limited human ability, love our granddaughter, how much more must He love me. And I believe that because the Bible says “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).

That thought swirled in my head. I heaved a deep sigh. And echoed, “…may my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the LORD” (Psalm 104:34).

And rejoice I do, hoping my thoughts, actions, and words are pleasing to Him. Just like our family is tuned to every sound my granddaughter makes, He’s aware of every detail that hovers around me.

I pray you too will feel the amazing joy of knowing He’s crazy about you-- hears your every whisper, reads your heart, and knows your pain.
