SCUBA for the blind?

Hmm…maybe not. A friend, with gusto and enthusiasm, invited my hubby and me to, of all things, a SCUBA experience. I chuckled. And he quickly realized that might not be a lot of fun for a blind person.

The one thing that did impress me, though, was our friend’s knowledge of the details about the whole thing---as a certified diver, he rattled lingo about the depth of the ocean, the levels of oxygen needed, etc.

I’d rather relax in the sun, listen to a book on CD, and soak in sunrays—all without needing oxygen.

I reflected on the incredible depth of the ocean, so deep in fact man cannot survive should he cross a specific limit.

What a comparison to the depth of God’s love. Actually there is no comparison. But if we truly understood how deep His love for us is, would we fear anything? If we knew the profound level of His faithfulness, would we fret over details? If we had a true understanding of His mercy, would we still feel condemned when we sin? And if our minds could comprehend His wisdom, would we tremble at the unknown? And if His approval of who we are were ever present in our hearts, would we join the frenzy of a commercialized Christmas?

I pray you plunge into the waters of His Word. The only certification needed is a genuine desire. As Paul prayed for the Ephesians, I also pray that, “you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:17-19).
