Christmas gatherings, where do they go wrong?

Some are wonderful events with love floating in the air. Others are stuffy with tension. We all have those relatives that make the difference - some cranky, others crass, crude, and yet some cool with kind comments. And how about those with crafty loaded with crazy ideas?

Know some of them? As Christians we roll our sleeves and vow to exude Christ’s love with each encounter.

Easy? No. It’s down right impossible sometimes.

But God said to love one another. For me, keeping my tongue from flapping is the biggest challenge. Restraining from blurting out my opinion, giving instructions, and offering constructive criticism top my list of no-nos.

So, when I received this from my friend Kris. I swallowed hard and my soul whispered, “This is for you.” (It might be for you, too - check it out.)

“A wise man holds his tongue. Only a fool blurts out everything he knows” (Proverbs 10:14, The LB-Paraphrased).

I seek Your wisdom and ask that You counsel me in all I say, Lord. Help me hold my tongue when I am to remain silent, and give me the words to speak when I am to do so. Please don’t let me be the fool who blurts out everything he knows, or thinks he knows.

Father, I ask that You lead me away from wagging tongues, and shut my lips to gossip. Keep me from being drawn into conversations that are displeasing to You, and never let my tongue serve as a weapon to wound another human being.

Please bless me with Truth that springs from my heart and flows through my lips, so all I say is of You...through Christ Jesus. Amen.

Please hold my tongue and shut my lips,

Don't let my words be evil quips.

Thanks, Kris…this Christmas I’ll practice nodding and smiling any negative thoughts away.
