The umbrella came in handy...inside the house.

Okay, most of you know me. I’m goofy and so very “sanguine” (never ever worried about details. Instead, I look for any chance to have fun). But, sometimes that’s not a good thing. This past weekend a dear friend and I dashed off to a gorgeous condo on the water near our home in Florida. The purpose was to focus intensely on a ministry called “The Significant Woman” (brand new and awesomely impacting program).

There I was in an unfamiliar place, not knowing my way around and, not paying attention to details, I’d forgotten to bring my white cane.

“Here,” my friend said, “This will work.” She handed me a long umbrella.

Good thinking, I thought. It served the purpose. So, any time I needed to navigate through the condo, I very carefully and cautiously swung the umbrella from side to side and managed to find my way from room to room.

But, oh boy, what a contrast to my life. Nothing slow or careful about it…I raced through activities, events, demands, responsibilities until, panting and sweating from the effort, was left exhausted. Can anybody identify?

My friend Kris brings us a bold reminder we might all need to heed. Here it is:

“Rest in the Lord; wait patiently for him to act” (Psalm 37:7, The LB). Lord, we often find ourselves getting lost in the “fast lane" of life. Please allow us to rest in You. Take us to a tranquil place where we may listen in the quiet, and wait patiently for You to exemplify Your will.

We spend our lives foolishly just running all around.

Our pace is too fast moving we barely touch the ground.

We're searching for the answers to questions we don't know.

We need to stop and listen, and not be “on the go.”

We need the gift of patience peace, grace and honor, too.

But, we cannot receive them without accepting You.

We want to rest in You, Lord. Please help us with this task.

Show us what to do, Lord...Please...this is what we ask.

...in Jesus’ name. Amen

With love and friendship,

Are you by chance navigating through unfamiliar territory? Perhaps pain you’ve not known before smashed into your world unexpectedly? Or even disturbing setbacks made you lose your way? I invite you to take up the umbrella of God’s Word. You’ll then avoid obstacles, hurdles, or walls that stand in your way. And instead, He’ll lead you to calm waters, tranquil seas, and the sweet breeze of His promises will quiet the winds of stress.
