Yep, I did it all. Being blind is sometimes yucky, especially when you end up with weird stuff in your mouth. The mold? I took a bite of bread that tasted moist, really moist, more than usual.

“Honey,” I called out to hubby. “This tastes funny.”

With a swift move, he grabbed it from my hand. “Don’t eat that!”

Just last night I munched into a delicious pear. And when a piece refused to disintegrate between my teeth, I realized I was chewing those pesky labels stores stick on fruit! Why do they do that?

To my shame, I’ve also done things just as foolish in general. Before I knew Christ as my Lord, I chewed on ideas that weren’t sweet such as “I can do it all on my own.”

I bit on insecurities like “I didn’t measure up.”

I tasted idiotic notions, “My physical image was a reflection of my worth.”

I savored stupid misconceptions, “My blindness ruined my life.” The list is really endless.

Until the day wisdom knocked on my door. I didn’t recognize it. I hadn’t seen it before. It had a certain peculiarity. But something about it lured me closer.

I welcomed it because wisdom had arrived by way of God’s Word. Verses screamed, “There’s a better way, a higher calling, and a deeper insight than yours.”

Heading on a wiser path, I still end up with strange things in my mouth sometimes. But what goes in my heart are reassuring words, sound precepts, and profound guidelines that shape my life.

Wisdom says, “All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse. To the discerning all of them are right; they are faultless to those who have knowledge. Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her” (Proverbs 8:8-11) .

Here’s cheering you on to choose the wealth of wisdom.
