I am sure all of you have heard recently in the news about the car crash that involved the New Jersey Governor John Corizine. Corizine was badly injured and required multiple surgeries to treat his multiple injuries and was on a respirator for a while. Corizine’s injuries were a result of riding in the back seat of an SUV and he was not wearing his seat belt. While he was in the hospital the media reported on possible criminal charges that were going to be filed against Corizine because he was not wearing his seat belt. There were many stories in the media about how poor of a role model he was because he is a state official and not obeying basic car operation rules.

He was released from the hospital a couple of days ago. Corizine apologized to the state for his negligence and ask to be forgiven for his lack of judgment. What he had done was noble and because he is a high profile politician then his comments were very necessary. I am a little sympathetic Corizone’s lack of judgment. I just think that Corizine is like many countless other Americans who ride in the back seat of cars with out there seat belts on. I know that I personally buckle up every time I drive or when I am a passenger in the front seat. I also know that when I am in the back seat buckling up is not something that I do automatically. It seems to me that a false sense of security is associated with being in the back seat of a car. I just don’t automatically buckle up when I am in the back seat. I will now be more conscious of it now after Corizine accident. I do know that the Governor and I are not alone in our lack of judgment.
