Have you ever blown it? Really blown it?

We have the handiest man ever. Anything we point out - a corner of the railing which my son’s puppy chewed, painting, repairing a tiny hole on the screen around our swimming pool, or filling a crack on the cement. Yep, he can do it all!

Anything I point to fix, with a reassurance of a CEO in charge, he announces. "That’s what I do."

What a great guy! Repairs are a cinch for him.

But how about the repairs in my life? You know which ones I mean: broken dreams, relationships shattered because of terrible misunderstandings, or a health diagnosis that jolted my senses. But even worse, those circumstances where even with best intentions, I blew - said the wrong thing, made the incorrect decision, followed the misguided path. Yikes…the list is endless.

But to my rescue, instead of my handy man, I have a Holy Master. Times when I really mess it up, I cry out to Him, "Lord, did you see what I did? I totally blew it, really blew it."

On my knees, I wait for his healing, His restoration, His fixing in ways I couldn’t imagine how.

What freedom! What comfort that I can press on with confidence. And if, in the days to come, following my human and limited wisdom I fall in a ditch of bad decisions, He’ll pick me up, dust my heart, and whisper to my soul, "That’s what I do."

"And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast” (1 Peter 5:8-9).

Praying that in times when you feel like you blow it, you call on Him and find that healing your pain, repairing the cracks in your life, and soothing your wounds is precisely what He does!
