The Book Attic Interviews Author Ronald W. Adams
City: Hamburg
State: New York
Country: United States of America

Tell us what makes you proud to be a writer from your City, State or Country?
I was born and raised on the South Shore in Massachusetts, but have lived most of my adult life in the Buffalo, NY area. I love this area for so many reasons. Mostly, I love it for the people. My experience here has shown me that there is a reason Buffalo is known as the city of good neighbors. The hospitality, the warmth, the generosity is unmatched anywhere I have ever been. Sure, we get snow. It comes with the territory. But a summer here is worth all the winter people think we get.

What or who inspired you to become a writer?
As far as other writers go, I am inspired by the writing of Robert B. Parker, Janet Evanovich, Stephen King, Jimmy Buffett, Patricia Cornwall, Dan Brown, John MacDonald. I would count these as some of the biggest influences as far as my writing goes. But for the true inspiration in my life, I would have to say that goes to my wife, Trish, my son Danny, and my daughter Katie. They make me want to try harder and to be the best husband and father I can be. I am inspired by the opportunity to show my children that dreams come true if you work hard enough to make them real.

When did you begin writing with the intention of becoming published?
In 2001, I started writing a story based on some of the details in the infamous Susan Smith case. I had just turned 40, and I had always wanted to write a novel. So I continued, and eventually published Lake Effect in 2003. I immediately started working on the sequel, feeling there were more stories to be told about Joe Banks and his family. I am fortunate in that I found another publishing company, Enspiren Press, who was willing to take me on to publish my new novel, Key Lime Squeeze.

Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and why?
I grew up in a family of storytellers, and my brothers and I were always surrounded by colorful characters. In college, and all through my adult life, I have had an affinity for people with interesting stories to tell. I have always enjoyed reading, and that just led by extension to wanting to write my own stories.

Do you come up with your title (s) before or after you write the manuscript (s)?
For my first novel, Lake Effect, I went through about three different titles before settling on that one. For Key Lime Squeeze, that title was etched in stone from the moment I started the book.

Tell us why you write the genre that you write?
I write the kind and style of stories that I enjoy reading myself. I have been a big fan of the PI novel, and especially those that mix tension and humor in just the right proportion to keep the characters cool but believable at the same time.

What special projects are you working on now and what books do we have to look forward to in the future?
Currently I am very involved the promotion of Key Lime Squeeze, and doing my best to get the word out about that. I have begun the third installment of the Joe Banks PI series, with the working title of Crossing Midnight.

Is there anything else that you would like to share?
I would like to thank The Book Attic for the opportunity to tell your readers about my novels, and a little about myself. I hope they enjoy my stories as much as I enjoyed writing them.
