In war and battles there are intense moments of fighting between two or more parties. Each party has an agenda to oppose their will or desire upon the next party. Each party engaged in warfare has an ideal plan or will for how and what shall be done and when those two parties don’t agree war begins. In America we have fought many wars none more notable than the civil war between the Union and the Confederacy. This war was a political, social, and also industrial and it would shape the course of American History. The Confederacy and the Union couldn’t come to peaceable terms on how the country should be governed and war became necessary. Each and every day human beings fight an invisible war that has very visible consequences. This war is known as the battle between the Flesh and The Spirit.
Every human being is born of this world and has a physical nature. The flesh describes the physical nature of human beings it is what controls us or the central government of the body. The flesh is its own boss it takes no orders from anybody but it makes its own decisions and choices. People make suggestions but at the end of the day a person chooses what he or she ultimately will do. The problem with the flesh is that it has desires that sometimes can’t be controlled. The desire of the flesh can be dangerous and has lead many into destruction and chaos. For example guns don’t kill people because they are powerless without human interaction; alcohol doesn’t cause drunkenness until a human consumes it irresponsibly. The desires of the flesh sexual immorality, idolatry, drug abuse, wrath, selfishness, jealousy, and malice to name a few (Galatians 5: 19-21) will not only destroy a person in this life but also in the life to come. God has a will and a desire for your life and the desires of the flesh are contrary to the will of God.
The Spirit is to control the body and as a result the body will be under submission to God. Every human being has a choice to make and it is true that God instructs a person in righteousness but the decision is still that persons. The Spirit is always present instructing us in righteousness but we must submit to that instruction. Once a person is born again the fleshly nature is put to death and the spiritual nature assumes command of the body. Once this takes place a war breaks out because the flesh refuses to be obedient or be governed by another. The Holy Spirit is beautiful he instructs us in righteousness, he comforts us, and most important he desires to live inside of us so that we may walk with Him. The desires of the Spirit are God’s desires because he is God and they are love, peace, kindness, gentleness, and patience to name a few (Galatians 5:22-24). The war is waged between the will of God and the will of man for his own soul and the correct decision is to ignore your will and follow the will of God. The person who has not accepted Christ into their life doesn’t stand a chance against their own desires and will continue on in their slavery to their carnal desires until they make a decision for Christ. The person who puts to death their carnal desires in exchange for Spiritual birth is set free indeed from the power of their carnal desires and victory is certain (John 8:31). The war has been waged it is time for all of us to choose a general will it be the Holy Spirit or will you lead yourself into destruction the choice is yours.-Amen
