Cinnamon the dragon and other fiery critics

In 2005 I had the honor of interviewing Richard Bach, the creator of the wildly best-selling book, "Jonathan Livingston Seagull." His latest book, "Curious Lives," is a main source of encouragement for me as a writer. The characters are all humanlike ferrets (very fanciful but deep) and there is a chapter on writer ferrets. One has serious writer's block. Bach's portrayal of the fiery inner critic as a dragon named Cinnamon was brilliantly written and I asked him if he knew this dragon personally. He was in a candid mood and told me that he did.

If you would like to soak up his encouragement, wisdom and charm, go to www.cathleenhulbert.com and follow the link to "more writing."

This month, as I prepare to celebrate another birthday, my heart is so full of gratitude that I am writing and that I am nurtured and supported along the path. Equally wonderful is the joy of sharing the journey with those who are finding their natural gifts as writers, photographers, parents, friends, musicians, writers, comforters and the list goes on. Here's to joy, laughter and that most magnificent transformative accomplishment: self-love!
