Digital short Saturday Trestle Press Spring Submission Winner Jeffrey Martin House of Misery

Yesterday I had the privilege of announcing the first winner in the Trestle Press Spring Submission Contest: Jeffrey Martin for House of Misery. Serious stuff and it is an intense read. More on that in a bit. The contest winners will be announced at different times during the week on my blogtalk show The G-ZONE until we reach the conclusion on or around the 15th of April. The submissions were many. They varied in style and substance, and were all together amazing. My experience with them as a reader has been nothing short of wow, after wow, after wow. I look back at the experience now and wonder why was I so surprised at the quality of the stories, the amazing craftsmanship, and the uniqueness and variety of the plotlines. I had the pleasure of interviewing our first winner yesterday, the conversation was fun and for me enlightening. He was booked BEFORE he even submitted the story, so it just worked out well. The next winner that I am announcing Tuesday will be on the blogtalk show April 9th before we do the reading of the next Improvised Digital short Story. Remember the theme is Girls vs. Guys. Now to our digital story: House of Misery:

“Trestle Press Spring Submission Contest Winner Jeffrey Martin weaves a compelling drama that is sure to bring chills to your spine. This is one mystery/suspense digital short story that has elements of grave danger and terrible horror. What is in the House of Misery and who really haunts it? Does this story have a happy ending? What do you think?”

The story itself has a word count of about 1,800 words. Each one is a firecracker. For a buck this is a read that is coming at you fast, furious, and hard. I had goose bumps reading this; I kid you not. The genre description I could best guess at is suspense/psychological/horror with no humor mixed in, serious stuff from start to finish. I would suggest that you allow the amount of time you think is necessary to read this, as pulling away from it is difficult. The characters are good, the tension is great, and the writing style is intense. The bang for the buck is a true explosion here; the ending will leave you surprised and in awe of Jeffrey Martin’s ability. There is no suffering, anguish, or pain in purchasing and downloading the House of Misery.
