DON’T COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS… EMBRACE THEM

Our blessings are like little every day miracles. They can be so easy to miss if we aren’t watching for them. This is so important to understand. Seeing the good things in my situation is a good habit to become addicted to. It can fill your life with joy and happiness.
This is not hard to do. You have to want it though. All you have to do is redirect your focus. This does take effort and practice. Since I have learned to operate this way on a daily basis my life has become so much more enjoyable. Yes, I still have my “bummer” days but they are few and far between.
You might be thinking, “sure, TLC guy, easy for you to say but…” It’s like anything else in life. You do have a choice. You can exist in a spirit of happiness or misery. So what’s it gonna be? You only have one life, this one. Does it suck? Change it!! Is it wonderful? You can build on that.
Even in the toughest situations you need to have a learning mindset. When a bad thing happens in my life I choose not to get upset. I used to have a scary anger problem. I would become the big green guy. That was years ago. Now when I’m faced with an uncomfortable situation I always ask the question, “what am I supposed to learn from this?” OR “How can I take a positive lesson from this situation?”
This mindset is the inspiration behind my motivation to write the book The Learning Course. When I broke up with the women I was going to marry I was angry. If I hadn’t tried to understand and learn from this situation all of the pain I suffered in that situation would have been in vain. I learned a lot from all of the pain she put me through and today I would not change a thing. It has shaped who I am. I like myself. Do you like yourself? If you want others to you need to.
One example of this mindset comes from my friend Michele and her husband Lee. They love and care for their 14 year old disabled child, David. I really admire the way they see him. They see him as a blessing, a little person that has taught them so much about love and life. He requires a lot of care but we are never given more than we can handle. If you don’t believe that then you will go crazy.
