There comes a moment in every person’s life where we arrive at the fork in the road and a decision must be made. How do we decide on which direction to take is it right or is it left? Believe it or not decision making can be the most stressful of situations on the human soul. There is a heavy burden that comes with making decisions because each and every person wants to make the right decision. The two biggest fears of decision making are regret and failure and because of these two elements a great deal of stress is formulated in the brain.

The first element is regret we have a fear of walking into a situation and having that situation blow up in our face. For example we our having a tough time deciding about a job offer and you make a decision only to discover 3 months down the line your job has been terminated and now you regret letting the other job pass you by. The key to tackling regret is to learn how to live with regret. The decisions that you make are your own therefore you must accept accountability for your actions and understand that each action brings about consequence good or bad. The only time we truly regret a situation is when we know that the result was a direct action of our own misbehavior. It is like planting a seed if you plant an orange tree then an orange tree will surely grow. The conflict and regret comes when we plant an orange seed and expect to grow an apple tree. The word of God says we will reap what we sow (Galatians 6:8). Once a decision is made about a situation it is up to us to perform our best and give it our all and be correct morally and be true. If we walk into a situation and give 50% and steal 50% then should we really expect the best results? If I made a decision to take a job and I gave 100% of my ability to my employer by showing up on time, working hard, and being efficient and in the 3 months the employer let me go then I have no regrets. The reason I won’t have regrets is because I will have gained experience and opportunity to move on to a better job. I have gained insight on how my particular field operates, I have gained resources and references, and I got paid while doing it. There is always a curve ball in life no matter what road we take the key is to do the right thing in all situations so you aren’t disappointed in yourself.
The second element is fear of failure. If a person has a fear of failure they will never succeed in life because they will always run from a challenge and new opportunity. God has not created the human soul to fear but has given the human power to conquer all situations through his strength (Philippians 4:13; 2 Timothy 1:7) When looking at your options don’t run from the difficult choice because you are afraid of the results because you will never experience success. Many people lie to themselves believing that if task are hard then God must not want them to do that particular task which is wrong. Throughout the Bible from Abraham to Mary and Joseph there was always opposition and trouble against the plan of God for someone’s life. Evaluate your dreams and take the time now to go after your dreams and pray that God gives you strength on your journey because you will need it.
In making tough decisions always pray so mentally and spiritually you will have stability. Don’t allow yourself to be confused about making a choice wondering is this God plan for me or not? Believe me you will drive yourself crazy trying to figure out what God will for your life is. If you really want to know about God’s plan for your life look at the fork in the road and compare the choices to the moral character of God. If choice #1 puts you in situations that are conflicting to the moral character of God then choice #2 is obviously the right direction. Today give yourself a break a make a decision-Amen.

For God is not the author of confusion- 1 Corinthians 14:33
