Free ebooks for our Troops

Operation eBook Drop offers free downloads to deployed coalition troops. Authors participate as a way of saying “Thanks for your service, all you brave men and women.”
It began when Army veteran and ebook author Ed Patterson got into a discussion on the Amazon Kindle message boards with a U.S. soldier stationed in Iraq who was having difficulty downloading ebooks. Ed offered to email the soldier all 13 of his ebooks, for free. The soldier gratefully accepted, and an idea was born. Ed and other authors started using Smashwords.com as the platform for distributing ebooks to soldiers, because of the Smashwords Coupon Generator feature, which allows authors to email coupons to soldiers, enabling them to download free ebooks to any ereading device. Today about 900 authors are participating in the program.
