Gemma Sutherland wants to start a girls' football team at her new school, but rival Tyrone does everything he can to put a stop to her plans.

Inspired by my love of the Beautiful Game, Goalden Girl is my first self-published book for children. Published in 2007, it is aimed for readers aged 9-12 and tells the story of Gemma Sutherland, whose widowed father remarries a year after the death of Gemma's mother. Gemma's stepmother Shelley and her nine-year-old daughter Portia are a nightmare. Shelley wants to move to the other side of Liverpool and this means Gemma has to change schools, something she isn't happy about at all. For a start, they don't have girls' football at Naylorsfield Comprehensive like they did at her old school, where she was a star striker for her old school team, and for another Shelley's horrible nephew, Tyrone, goes to Naylorsfield, too. When Gemma starts a campaign to start girls' football, Tyrone and his mates come out in opposition. So starts a girls versus boys war and Gemma is at the centre of it!

Meanwhile, an odd mystery develops concerning Shelley and Gemma's ganes teacher, Tom Cassidy, and Gemma sees this as an opportunity to get rid of Shelley for good.

Goalden Girl is available worldwide in paperback and on Kindle
