Many have wondered where I have disappeared to the past few weeks, as my online presence has been reduced to bare bones, so it is time to unveil the reason for my absence. Aside from helping my consulting editor finalize the files of both titles to be uploaded on Kindle, Nook and other e-applications (Housekeeping for the Soul is now, finally, available in digital format; The Book of Obeah will be soon), our focus has been on other projects as well.
The greatest and most rewarding achievement of the past few weeks has been the creation of a new venture: HOOKED ON THE BOOK. See the website for more information.
HOOKED ON THE BOOK, an initiative of Wishadoo’s Books for Good, supports local authors and organizations working together to create cooperative communities one book at a time. $1 from each book sold at signing events and through Books for Good partners will be donated to the Louisiana Gulf Response (www.lagulfresponse.org
), via the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (www.crcl.org
), a local grassroots "boots on the ground" organization dedicated to preserving the Louisiana and Gulf Coast region.
HOOKED ON THE BOOK was inspired by the tragedy currently taking place in The Gulf due to the BP oil disaster in May 2010. (The name is credited to Mojo since he mentioned the words “book” and “hook” during a joking exchange in regards to holding a signing event at a bait/tackle shop.)
I am excited to be the first author to launch Wishadoo's Books for Good Initiative.
Maybe you have your own fundraising need and would like to use my books and those of other local authors? Any authors, publishers, businesses and organizations – anyone -- who would like to join together to Create Compassionate, Cooperative Communities are invited to contact dena (at) wishadoo.com for more information.
Join me this Saturday, June 5th, at Tea Gschwendner in Cameron Village in Raleigh for the launch of the HOOKED ON THE BOOK Campaign. I will be there to sign copies of Housekeeping for the Soul and The Book of Obeah from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm. I hope to see you there!
