Minder: A Ganzfield Novel, written by Kate Kaynak, tells a story that will blow your mind when you delve into the mind of Maddie Dunn, a telepathic sixteen year old girl who must learn how to control her awesome powers before someone gets hurt - or worse.

The novel opens in Ganzfield, a top secret training facility that teaches Maddie and others like her how to take command over their innate abilities that could lead to devastation. It's not an easy job, and Ganzfield isn't an easy place to be, but Maddie knows she needs to harness her thoughts so they don't lead to burning down buildings or controlling other peoples' thoughts.

Even though Ganzfield isn't the perfect place for a sixteen year old, Maddie doesn't mind being there as much as she minded being in her former home of New Jersey - especially when she meets the man of her dreams.

Readers of the Twilight Series will enjoy Minder - even though there are no vampires, werewolves, fairies or fallen angels. Minder is a young-adult, paranormal romance based on actual places and happenings. Readers will learn that superpowers aren't near as much fun or exciting as they appear to be in movies such as X-Men and Fantastic Four.

As Maddie discovers -- supernormal powers can get in the way of living life and being successful. Then, there's always the fear of burning something down or channeling a dislike for something into its ultimate destruction. Maddie struggles to learn about and keep her powers under control, and realizes that she must succeed in that endeavor if she achieves success in other areas of her life.

Minder is classified as fiction, but Kaynak used real information for some of the story behind the book. For example, Project Star Gate was an actual government psychic spy program - and there really was a "Ganzfeld" experiment into Extra-Sensory Perception. The hair on your neck will rise with the chills you get as you read how Ganzfield trains its "students" to harness and use the powers of their psychic abilities.

Kaynak also used the real town of Chatham, New Jersey (her own home town) as the home town for Maddie, and loosely based the high school in Chatham on her own. Ganzfield is based on a real village near North Conway, New Hampshire - an area where Kaynak's ancestors have lived since the 1700s.

Even the cover art in Minder was carefully chosen carefully by Kate Kaynak. Based on a century old Gestalt psychological test, the white vase depicted on the cover appears to be the silhouettes of two faces. The symbolization is that there are more souls in Ganzfield than the people that are seen at first glance.

Minder: A Ganzfield Novel is the first book in a series from Kate Kaynak, and readers will more than likely be breathlessly awaiting her next effort.
