Artistic expression(s) can either inspire or debilitate. It is manifested energy form(s) which reflects the consciousness of the artist, and
at the same time, impacts the consciousness of the listener. The
'lively' ingredients of melody, harmony, syncopation and rhythm,
comprised of beats and lyrical verse, become energized, positively
or negatively, to induce actions we oftentimes misread in our
attempts to understand the nature of [the] self, internal. When
hip-hop first exploded onto the scene in the 1970s, as a youngster,
I was mesmerized by the gifted talents of artists and groups such as
Rakim, The Sugarhill Gang, Kurtis Blow, Africa Bambaataa,
and many others. The messages were positively powerful and the
